Dong Thap: 206th death anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong solemnly commemorated

(DTO) On July 21, the Cao Lanh Ward People's Committee solemnly held the 206th death anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong (2026). The event drew leaders from provincial departments, agencies, and sectors, alongside former provincial officials across different periods.

Speaking at the commemoration, Vice Chairwoman of the Cao Lanh Ward People's Committee Ho Hue Thu Hang recalled the monumental contributions of Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong in pioneering the once-wilderness along the Tien River, establishing a village on marshlands, and erecting a market amid reed beds. That once-barren land has evolved into the prosperous Cao Lanh of today.

Although more than two centuries have passed since the Market Master couple departed this world, the people of Cao Lanh continue to revere them. They are honored not only for founding the village and marketplace, but also for exemplifying benevolence, selflessness, and ultimate sacrifice for the public good so that the community could live in peace.

Held annually, the commemoration is more than a traditional ritual. It serves as an opportunity for the community to reflect on its history, honor its roots, express gratitude, and carry forward the enduring values that the couple bequeathed to their homeland.

Over the years, the anniversary has evolved into a distinctive cultural event, promoting the image of Cao Lanh to both locals and visitors while spreading the values of gratitude, compassion, and hospitality that characterize the local people.

The four-day festival, running from July 20 to 23, strengthens community bonds and profoundly mirrors the Vietnamese cultural ethos of gratitude toward ancestors upheld by generations of Cao Lanh residents.
