Ngu Hiep Commune Announces the “Ngu Hiep Durian” Collective Trademark and Inaugurates Durian Landmark
(DTO) On June 8, the People’s Committee of Ngu Hiep Commune held a ceremony to announce the certification of the “Ngu Hiep Durian” collective trademark, inaugurate the Ngu Hiep durian landmark, and host a thematic seminar on solutions to control, minimize, and address cadmium contamination in durian production.
Attending the event were Mr. Nguyen Van Nha, former Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and former Head of the Provincial Party Committee’s Organization Commission; representatives of provincial departments and agencies; former provincial leaders and former leaders of the former Cai Lay District; leaders of Ngu Hiep Commune; as well as scientists, businesses, cooperatives, and local durian growers.

In his opening speech, Mr. Le Xuan Phong, Chairman of the Ngu Hiep Commune People’s Committee, emphasized that the event marks an important milestone in the development and promotion of local agricultural brands. It also reflects the commune’s commitment to modern, sustainable agricultural development by linking production with brand building, increasing added value, and enhancing product competitiveness in the marketplace.
Ngu Hiep is an island commune with favorable conditions for fruit cultivation, having long identified durian as its key crop and a major source of income for local residents. Through years of crop restructuring, the application of scientific and technical advances, and improved production organization, the commune has developed a large-scale durian-growing area known for its consistent quality and growing market reputation.
According to local authorities, the certification of the “Ngu Hiep Durian” collective trademark represents a significant milestone in building and protecting the commune’s signature agricultural brand. The trademark not only enhances product recognition and safeguards its reputation but also provides a foundation for reorganizing production, strengthening quality management and traceability systems, expanding market linkages, and accessing export markets.

At the ceremony, a representative of the Dong Thap Department of Science and Technology officially announced the decision to grant the “Ngu Hiep Durian” collective trademark certificate to the Ngu Hiep Durian Cooperative, which is responsible for managing the trademark.

Alongside the trademark announcement, the commune inaugurated the Ngu Hiep durian landmark located in front of the Commune People’s Committee. The structure features a pair of hands gently lifting a durian fruit, symbolizing aspirations for growth, community solidarity, and the determination to preserve and elevate the value of Ngu Hiep durian in the years ahead.

On this occasion, the Ngu Hiep Commune People’s Committee also organized a scientific seminar on the development of the durian industry, bringing together officials, researchers, businesses, and farmers.
The seminar focused on assessing the current state of durian production, increasingly stringent export-market requirements regarding product quality, growing-area codes, and traceability, as well as the critical issue of cadmium residue control.
Experts noted that while export markets offer significant opportunities, the durian industry also faces major challenges related to quality assurance and food safety. Effective control of cadmium contamination risks, the safe use of agricultural inputs, adherence to cultivation standards, and stronger collaboration among farmers, businesses, and technical agencies are essential measures for protecting the product’s reputation and ensuring sustainable market access.
The announcement of the “Ngu Hiep Durian” collective trademark, the inauguration of the durian landmark, and the organization of the scientific seminar on developing the durian industry are expected to provide new momentum for local agricultural brand building, promote the image of this potential island region, and gradually establish Ngu Hiep durian as a leading agricultural brand of Dong Thap Province with deeper integration into domestic and international value chains.
