Accelerating Preparations for the First Dong Thap Fruit Festival

(DTO) On the morning of May 25, Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Phuoc Thien chaired a working session on preparations for the First Dong Thap Fruit Festival.

At the meeting, the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment reported on the progress of the Festival’s preparations. According to the report, the province has established the Organizing Committee, and the remaining components have been submitted to the Provincial People’s Committee for approval. 

Leaders of departments and sectors also presented updates on the activities and tasks assigned to them. Delegates focused on discussing key matters related to the Festival, including sponsorship arrangements, the Festival’s brand identity, activity planning, communications work, and event organization. The event organizer also reported on proposed activity layouts at Hung Vuong Square.

According to the Provincial People’s Committee, the Festival will take place over four days, from June 5 to 8, 2026, under the theme “Dong Thap - Land of Sweet Fruits.” This province-level event will be held at Hung Vuong Square (Dao Thanh Ward).

The Festival will feature several major activities, including the opening ceremony; an exhibition space showcasing the value chain of Dong Thap’s fruit industry; a display and introduction area for Dong Thap tourism products; a trade fair promoting fruit products, processed fruit items, OCOP-certified products, and specialties of the Mekong Delta; a seminar on “Farmers 4.0 and Organized Production Areas”; a conference on developing value chains for the province’s key fruit products; a seminar on building and promoting brands for the province’s key agricultural products; and a water music, light, and mapping performance program titled “Listening to the River’s Stories.”

In addition, the Festival will include supporting activities such as the photo exhibition “The Beauty of the Riverine Countryside”; the space “Age-Tagging for Trees and Fruits” to recognize veteran farmers with long-standing trees; the fruit-model arrangement contest “Dong Thap - Sweet with Alluvial Flavor, Rich with the Love of the Land”; the culinary competition and showcase “Flavors of the Pink Lotus Land”; the “Charming Countryside” contest; Dong Thap Youth Day - Spreading the Values of Sweet Land Fruits; Specialty Fruit Week at selected modern retail systems and e-commerce platforms nationwide; the Mekong Delicacies food space; activities responding to the Festival at communes and wards; a green tourism and agri-tourism famtrip; and a fun-run event featuring fruit-themed costumes and designs titled “Fruit Run.” 

The Festival’s opening ceremony will take place from 8-10 p.m. on June 5 and will be broadcast live. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. on June 8. 

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien agreed to establish support teams for Festival organization. He requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to intensify communications efforts. Within this week, the event organizer must submit the opening ceremony script and related components, including the water music performance, to the Provincial People’s Committee for feedback before sending it to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism for appraisal. 

He also approved the Festival’s brand identity. Relevant units must promptly revise the design according to the guidance of provincial leaders to proceed with issuing invitations. The Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Office of the Provincial People’s Committee must review the implementation plans assigned to each unit. All departments must prepare detailed, specific plans for monitoring and progress checks. 

Simultaneously, special attention must be given to food safety and traceability. Communes and wards are required to organize responsive activities. The event organizer is to work with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to design several decorative displays at the Festival venue.
