Campaign Launched for Waste Sorting at Source and Plastic Waste Reduction

(DTO) To mark World Environment Day on June 5, the Dong Thap Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment held a ceremony to launch the campaign for promoting household waste sorting at source and plastic waste reduction in 2026 on the morning of May 29 at Tram Chim National Park Tourist Area, Tram Chim Commune.

The event was attended by representatives of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Thap Province, provincial departments and agencies, universities and colleges, local authorities, Youth Union members, students, and a large number of residents. 

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Van Kiet, Deputy Director of the Dong Thap Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized that waste sorting at source and reducing plastic waste are not only essential environmental protection measures but also important steps toward fostering a green lifestyle and sustainable development. He called on government agencies, organizations, schools, and residents to work together in sorting waste at source and reducing the use of single-use plastics to help protect the environment.

Representatives of local authorities in the buffer zone and Tram Chim National Park also voiced their support for the initiative, expressing their commitment to working alongside relevant agencies in raising public awareness and encouraging local communities to preserve the landscape and protect the ecosystem surrounding the park. 

At the ceremony, organizers officially launched the 2026 awareness campaign on household waste sorting at source and plastic waste reduction, demonstrating a shared commitment to building a greener, cleaner, and more beautiful environment.

Following the launch, delegates, Youth Union members, and volunteers took part in tree planting, vegetation clearing, environmental clean-up activities, plastic waste collection, and hands-on waste sorting at source within Tram Chim National Park.

The event aimed to raise public awareness and strengthen community responsibility for environmental protection, contributing to a greener, cleaner, and more beautiful living environment while helping conserve the region’s unique ecosystem.
