(DTO) On the morning of October 15, the Dong Thap Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with Tan Phu Dong Commune, launched a campaign themed “Combating the Illegal Hunting, Trading, and Consumption of Wildlife and Migratory Birds in Dong Thap Province and Neighboring Localities in 2026.”

Master of Science Nguyen Hoai Bao, representative of BirdLife International, speaks on migratory birds, wetland habitats, and threats from illegal hunting, trapping, trading, and consumption.

The event was attended by representatives from the University of Science under the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; BirdLife International; leaders of Tan Phu Dong Commune; and representatives from the Departments of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long, Tay Ninh, and Ho Chi Minh City. Also in attendance were operators of wildlife breeding facilities, restaurants, catering businesses, individuals, and households from the coastal communes of Gia Thuan, Tan Dien, Go Cong Dong, Tan Phu Dong, and Tan Thoi.

During the program, participants were educated on the vital role of migratory birds, wetland ecosystems, and the dangers posed by the illegal hunting, trapping, trading, and consumption of wildlife. Additionally, relevant legal regulations as well as the responsibilities of local authorities, organizations, and individuals in wildlife protection and biodiversity conservation were widely disseminated.

Representatives of five households and wildlife breeding facilities from five communes sign commitments to strictly abide by wildlife protection regulations.

On this occasion, leaders from the five communes—Tan Phu Dong, Gia Thuan, Tan Dien, Go Cong Dong, and Tan Thoi—signed commitments to manage and protect biodiversity while raising public awareness against the illegal hunting, trading, and consumption of wildlife and migratory birds. Representatives of five households and wildlife breeding facilities across the five communes also signed pledges to strictly comply with wildlife protection regulations.

In response to the campaign, Tan Phu Dong Commune People’s Committee Vice Chairman Duong Vuong Dao emphasized the need to raise public awareness and strengthen community responsibility for biodiversity conservation. He called on organizations, individuals, and local residents to actively promote the campaign and reject the illegal hunting, trading, and consumption of wildlife and migratory birds, thereby helping protect the ecological environment and preserve natural resources sustainably.
