Chairman Nguyen Thanh Nhan Urges BIM to Assess Feasibility of Proposed Renewable Energy Projects in Dong Thap
(DTO) On the afternoon of October 27, Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Deputy Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, chaired a meeting with BIM Energy Joint Stock Company to discuss its proposed investments in renewable energy projects in the province.
At the meeting, BIM proposed assessing the potential for solar and wind power projects. The company also recommended considering the inclusion of these projects in the Revised National Power Development Plan for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 (Revised Power Development Plan VIII), along with phased capacity development and coordinated investment in power grid infrastructure.

According to BIM, Dong Thap has strong potential for renewable energy development thanks to its relatively flat terrain and favorable solar radiation levels, particularly in the northwestern part of the province. Meanwhile, the eastern coastal area offers favorable conditions for developing large-scale nearshore and offshore wind power projects.
For the 2026-2030 period, BIM proposed prioritizing the implementation of two renewable energy projects: the Tan Thanh 2 Wind Power Project, with a capacity of 100 MW in Phase 1 and 226 MW in Phase 2; and the Thap Muoi 1 Solar Power Project, with a capacity of 74 MW. The company estimates that the projects would require a total investment of approximately 17.5 trillion VND and generate around 1,380 GWh of clean electricity annually, contributing to energy security and the province’s socio-economic development. The projects are also expected to directly support Dong Thap’s target of average annual GRDP growth of 9.5-10% during 2026-2030.

BIM also proposed surveying solar power projects with a combined planned capacity of 500 MW in Hong Ngu, An Binh and Thuong Lac wards, and Tan Hong, Tan Thanh, Tam Nong, Phu Tho, An Hoa and Thuong Phuoc communes. For wind power, the company proposed studying projects with a combined planned capacity of 500 MW in the coastal areas of Gia Thuan, Tan Dong, Tan Dien and Go Cong Dong.
These proposals are intended for consideration under the Revised Power Development Plan VIII for 2026-2030, with an orientation toward 2035. Project implementation will depend on assessments of energy potential, planning compatibility and the feasibility of coordinated investment in power grid infrastructure.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Nhan urged BIM Energy Joint Stock Company to continue assessing the feasibility of its proposed projects, ensuring compliance with planning requirements, avoiding overlaps or conflicts with other projects, and making effective use of local potential and advantages.

Regarding BIM’s proposed wind and solar power projects, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Nhan called on the company to work closely with relevant departments and agencies to review project locations, assess investment conditions, finalize documentation and complete procedures in accordance with regulations. Based on the company’s proposals and commitments, along with the feasibility research results, relevant departments and agencies will advise the Provincial People’s Committee on reviewing the projects and reporting to competent authorities on matters related to the Revised Power Development Plan VIII, in line with development orientations for 2026-2030.
Chairman Nguyen Thanh Nhan emphasized that investment options must ensure overall efficiency and balance the interests of the State, investors and local residents. The projects should not only develop clean energy sources but also optimize the use of land and water resources while creating new momentum for the province’s socio-economic development.
He affirmed that Dong Thap always welcomes and facilitates investors in exploring and implementing projects in accordance with the law. He also expressed hope that BIM would continue leveraging its capabilities and experience to explore suitable investment options, effectively harness the province’s potential and advantages, promote clean energy development and diversify the drivers of local economic growth.
