Digital Economy: No Longer a Distant Prospect

(DTO) The discourse surrounding the digital economy, innovation, and the promotion of science and technology is currently a focal point of discussion. This theme is not new; rather, it has entered a new phase-one that is faster, more synchronized, and more urgent than ever before.

This is no longer a localized story confined to specific provinces or sectors; it is an integral part of the national landscape and a dominant global trend. Naturally, Dong Thap is actively integrating into this collective momentum.

In alignment with the national trajectory, the Provincial Party Executive Committee issued Resolution No. 08-NQ/TU on January 14, 2026. This resolution, focusing on the development of the digital economy, innovation, and the promotion of science and technology in Dong Thap for the 2025–2030 period, provides a clear roadmap of the objectives to be achieved.

With these milestones for the digital economy firmly established, the remaining challenge lies in the effective implementation of solutions to yield substantive results.

To realize these defined goals, Dong Thap has determined that the digital economy must be developed comprehensively across three pillars: the digital technology industry, the platform digital economy, and the digital economy within specific sectors. These must be closely linked with scientific-technological advancement and innovation. Furthermore, digital economic growth must be inherently tied to the value chains of the province's key commodity sectors.

Concurrently, scientific-technological research and innovation for the upcoming period must remain closely aligned with local socio-economic development tasks. These efforts must emphasize high applicability, remain practical, and directly address urgent issues in daily life and production.

Of course, building a “new Dong Thap” begins not only with major policies but also with clearly defined, concrete goals.

For instance, the province is focusing on becoming a leading locality in digital transformation within the Mekong Delta, aiming to rank among the top 20 provinces and cities nationwide.

Simultaneously, Dong Thap is concentrating on developing modern digital infrastructure, positioning the digital economy as a new pillar of the provincial economy.

The ultimate goal is that by 2030, Dong Thap will have essentially completed digital databases across all sectors, creating open data to serve citizens and businesses while ensuring absolute cybersecurity and safety.

Specific targets for the digital economy by 2030 include: the digital economy accounting for 30% of GRDP; the contribution of Total Factor Productivity (TFP) to economic growth exceeding 55%; a Provincial Digital Transformation Index ≥ 0.75; and the value of cashless payments reaching 24 times the provincial GRDP. Furthermore, the province strives to commence construction on at least one digital technology industrial park.

In the broader picture, the digital economy is merely one facet of a social life that is inherently being "digitalized." As the pace of digital transformation accelerates and the cycle of each revolution shortens, the adaptability of every digital citizen becomes the core issue for discussion.
