Dong Thap Accelerates Key Projects to Drive Socio-Economic Growth
(DTO) To boost growth and create momentum for socio-economic development, Dong Thap province is focusing on accelerating the progress of key projects right from the beginning of the year.
In 2026, the province's total public investment capital exceeds 11,374 billion VND. This includes over 9,428 billion VND from the local budget and more than 1,946 billion VND from the central budget.

From this capital source, the province has focused on implementing various projects (DA), including many key works with significant socio-economic importance.
The Tra Tan sluice and the 26-3 sluice, part of Phase 1 of the project to build a saline intrusion control system at the heads of canals and creeks flowing into the Tien River along Provincial Road 864, are among the major agricultural projects currently underway.
The contract value of this project is over 131.2 billion VND. It plays a vital role in preventing saltwater intrusion, storing freshwater, and protecting the province's specialized durian cultivation areas.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dam Thanh Tuyen, Director of the Dong Thap Provincial Project Management Board for Agricultural and Rural Development Works, by early January 2026, construction progress of the Tra Tan and 26-3 sluices had reached over 30% in value.
Mr. Nguyen The Hong Trung, Director of the Dong Thap Department of Construction, said that to accelerate project implementation amid shortages of construction materials, the sector will coordinate with investors to review and propose priority plans for allocating materials to key projects and those likely to be completed within the planned year. Simultaneously, they will proactively develop flexible construction plans suited to material supply capabilities. At the same time, contractors are directed to proactively secure medium and long-term material supplies to avoid being passive or dependent on market fluctuations. Progress and disbursement results for each project are regularly reviewed and evaluated to promptly propose solutions for any obstacles. |
It is expected that the project will be completed and put into operation by September 2026, about three months ahead of schedule.
Provincial Road 864 Phase 1 is one of the key transport projects currently being implemented. The project is divided into two component projects.
Component Project 1, with a total investment of 126 billion VND, is managed by the Area 3 Investment and Construction Project Management Board.
Component Project 2, with a total investment of 2.337 billion VND, is managed by the Dong Thap Provincial Transport Investment and Construction Project Management Board.
Component Project 2 is further divided into three segments. Specifically, the segment from My Tho to Provincial Road 877B and the Vam Giong Bridge has been inspected and put into use.
The segment from Long Binh to Den Do, spanning approximately 14,79 km, is currently under construction.
This segment involves land clearance costs of about 305 billion VND and two construction packages valued at approximately 487 billion VND.
Currently, the construction progress of the Long Binh - Den Do segment has reached about 80% of its value. On-site at Component Project 2, the atmosphere is bustling as contractors have mobilized personnel and equipment to implement various items.
Mr. Mai Huu Nhan, Deputy Director of Phuoc Hung Construction - Trading - Service Co., Ltd., stated that to speed up the work, the contractor has focused on increasing shifts.
Despite difficulties with scarce material supplies and rising prices, the contractor is actively seeking sources to accelerate progress.
To date, the package has reached 80% of its value. Mr. Mai Huu Nhan committed to completing the package before April 30, 2026.
According to Mr. Tran Minh Trung, Director of the Dong Thap Provincial Transport Investment and Construction Project Management Board, the unit will focus on urging contractors to complete the Long Binh - Den Do segment by April 30, 2026.
Simultaneously, they will coordinate with local authorities to expedite land clearance for the commencement of the Den Do - Tan Thanh section.
The transport road project along both banks of the Bao Dinh River is also a key undertaking.
According to the Dong Thap Provincial Civil and Industrial Construction Project Management Board, the project has a total investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND, featuring five construction packages. Currently, three packages are under construction with a total value of about 794 billion VND.
Despite significant challenges regarding land clearance, the investor and contractors remain determined to overcome difficulties and speed up progress.
Mr. Dang Dinh Khai, a technical officer from the Hai Duong Rural Development and Dikes Construction Joint Stock Company (JSC) (part of the joint venture for Segment 1), stated that the progress of Segment 1 has reached approximately 87%.
The contractor has mobilized about 80 technical staff and workers along with 20 pieces of machinery.
To further accelerate progress, the contractor will increase shifts to complete remaining items such as sidewalk tiling, tree planting, and lighting installation.
Alongside the Bao Dinh River project, the Cao Lanh - An Huu Expressway Phase 1 project holds special strategic significance for the province's socio-economic development. The project has a total investment of 7,496 billion VND, consisting of two component projects.
Component Project 1 is approximately 16km long with an investment of 3,640 billion VND, while Component Project 2 is 11.45km long with an investment of 3,856 billion VND.

According to the Dong Thap Provincial Civil and Industrial Construction Project Management Board, given the scale and nature of Component Project 2, the construction time would typically be 36 months.
However, the unit proactively applied suitable technical solutions and practical experience from the planning and design stages to establish a 23-month schedule.
Currently, the project is meeting this accelerated timeline, with Component Project 2 reaching approximately 70% progress.
Leadership of the Board stated they will continue to coordinate closely with local authorities on land clearance, with leaders directly participating in working groups to resolve obstacles.
Furthermore, the unit will urge construction progress to ensure completion as planned and organize inspections for handover, particularly for important works using central budget funds.
