(DTO) On June 3, Mr. Le Chi Thien, Deputy Director of Dong Thap Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, together with Mr. Huynh Van Vinh, Vice Chairman of the My Tho Commune People’s Committee, and representatives from relevant agencies, visited households in My Thanh Hamlet, My Tho Commune to install age plaques on mango trees selected to participate in the 2026 Dong Thap Fruit Festival.

Officials install an age plaque on an 80-year-old mango tree  belonging to the household of Nguyen Van Muong.

My Tho Commune has three mango trees selected for the festival, including an 80-year-old Cat Chu mango tree belonging to Mr. Nguyen Van Muong, as well as a 60-year-old Cat Hoa Loc mango tree and a 26-year-old Cat Chu mango tree owned by Mr. Doan Thanh Hien. All three trees are cultivated under the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS), ensuring safe production practices, high-quality fruit, and environmental sustainability.

At each site, the officials personally installed information plaques on the trees, recording details such as tree age, mango variety, orchard owner, and production history.

The activity aims to honor the value of long-standing fruit trees while promoting the Dong Thap mango brand in general and My Tho mangoes in particular to visitors from both within and outside the province.

On this occasion, leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment and My Tho Commune also met with local growers to discuss cultivation and orchard management. They further outlined plans to develop eco-tourism associated with fruit orchards and encouraged farmers to continue improving product quality while building and strengthening the brand identity of the locality’s signature fruits.

The installation of age plaques is one of the highlights of the 2026 Dong Thap Fruit Festival. Notably, during the festival, Mr. Hien’s family  will host livestream mango sales directly from their orchard, helping promote local mangoes, connect producers with consumers, and introduce visitors to the cultural, historical, and economic values associated with the traditional fruit-growing profession in Dong Thap Province in general and My Tho Commune in particular.
