Dong Thap Approves Overpass Plan for Dong Tam Intersection
(DTO) The Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee has issued Official Letter No. 867 to the Ministry of Construction, approving the route alignment, funding source and site clearance schedule for an additional overpass at the National Highway 1 intersection in the Dong Tam area, as part of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Construction Investment Project.

Under the plan, the overpass will cross National Highway 1, linking the approach road to the Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong Expressway with Provincial Road 870 leading to the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge.
Funding will be sourced from the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Construction Investment Project connecting Dong Thap and Vinh Long provinces.
Site clearance is expected to take about four to five months from the time land clearance design documents are received and boundary markers are installed and handed over on site.
The Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee has also asked the Ministry of Construction and the My Thuan Project Management Board to soon implement the additional overpass to help ease traffic congestion at the Dong Tam intersection.
Previously, Mr. Phan Vinh Thanh, deputy director of the Dong Thap Department of Construction, said that since the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge opened in August 2025, traffic volume in the area has increased significantly, causing congestion at the Dong Tam intersection, especially during peak hours and weekends.
To ease traffic pressure, the department has coordinated with police to step up public awareness campaigns and adjust traffic signal timing at the intersection. However, authorities say the most effective long-term solution is to build an overpass.
The project is estimated to cost about VND 248 billion. The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project is scheduled to run until 2027 and still has around VND 400 billion in remaining funds, enough to finance the additional component.
Construction of the Dong Tam overpass is expected to start in 2026 and be completed in 2027.
