(DTO) On the afternoon of April 24, the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee held a thematic conference on promoting growth in the fisheries and livestock sectors for 2026.

The event was chaired by Tran Dinh Luan, Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance; Nguyen Phuoc Thien, Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee; and Huynh Tat Dat, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment. Also attending were representatives from the Directorate of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance, the Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health, the Vietnam Academy of Fishery Sciences, the Southern Institute of Livestock Production and Animal Health, provincial departments, local authorities, businesses, cooperatives, and production facilities across the province.

A view of the conference

The conference aimed to effectively implement the Provincial Party Committee’s action programs, resolutions of the Provincial People’s Council, and the socio-economic development plan for 2026-2030.

In 2026, the province aims for the GRDP of the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector to reach around 87,957 billion VND, an increase of 4-4.5%, contributing to the province’s overall growth goals.

Director General Tran Dinh Luan speaks at the conference.

Delegates assessed current conditions, identified bottlenecks in fisheries and livestock development, and proposed solutions for sustainable growth through technology application, value-chain development, and improved competitiveness.

The conference also discussed adjustments to the management plan for commercial pangasius farming areas in the province.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien delivers remarks.

Central agencies and provincial departments presented reports on value-chain development, science and technology application in production and processing, and management.

Businesses, cooperatives, and producers raised issues regarding production linkages, consumption, breeding stock, feed, farming environment, and support mechanisms.

An enterprise representative speaks at the conference.

A representative from MAVIN My Long Co., Ltd. noted rising demand for high-quality breeding stock, while small-scale farming is declining due to disease, environmental challenges, and rising costs. The company proposed support for expanding farm scale, attracting investment, upgrading infrastructure, and ensuring stable output.

A representative of Gia Thuan Commune People’s Committee speaks at the conference.

Gia Thuan Commune reported strengths in marine economic development, with over 200 hectares of aquaculture and an estimated 7,100 tons harvested in the first quarter, supported by 578 fishing vessels. Livestock production remains stable with over 53,000 animals. However, the locality continues to face challenges such as high input costs, fragmented production, weak linkages, and climate risks.

To address these issues, the commune proposed reorganizing production toward concentration, strengthening value-chain linkages, adopting science and technology, developing fisheries logistics services, promoting biosecure livestock farming, and improving cooperative performance.

In his closing remarks, Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien emphasized the key objective of identifying practical, effective solutions to achieve the planned GRDP growth for the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector in 2026. He stressed the need for unified participation across the value chain, with enterprises and producers at the center.

He requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to incorporate expert and delegate feedback and coordinate with relevant units to advise the Provincial People’s Committee to fulfill growth targets for the fisheries and livestock sectors, contributing to the province’s socio-economic goals for 2026 and the 2026-2030 period.
