Dong Thap Expands Cooperation with Can Tho University

(DTO) On July 31, the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee held a signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement with Can Tho University for the 2026-2030 period. 

The ceremony was attended by Huynh Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, along with leaders of provincial departments and agencies. Representing Can Tho University were Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Vice Director of the university, and leaders of its member schools, institutes, and affiliated centers.

The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration by leveraging the strengths of both sides in human resource development, scientific research, technology transfer, innovation, and digital transformation, thereby contributing to the province’s socio-economic development. 

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman Huynh Minh Tuan emphasized that the partnership between Dong Thap Province and Can Tho University has been maintained for many years, delivering practical results in scientific research, technology transfer, and workforce training to support local development. 

He noted that following the provincial merger, the new Dong Thap has gained a broader development space with significant advantages in geographical location, transportation infrastructure, agriculture, aquaculture, and logistics. Alongside strengthening agriculture, industrial development has been identified as a key breakthrough to achieve double-digit economic growth, while human resource development remains a top priority. 

The province is also actively implementing the Party Central Committee’s Resolutions on science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, private sector development, education, and healthcare to create momentum for rapid and sustainable growth. 

The provincial leader highly appreciated Can Tho University’s contributions through scientific research projects, technology transfer, and practical solutions in agriculture, aquaculture, fruit production, and environmental management, as well as its advisory role in numerous local science initiatives. 

During the new cooperation period, Dong Thap expects Can Tho University to continue supporting the province in addressing development challenges, particularly in ecological agriculture, modern rural development, human resource quality improvement, and the advancement of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation in line with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW.

On behalf of Can Tho University, Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai reaffirmed the university's commitment to serving as a leading education and research institution in the Mekong Delta. With its team of experts and scientists, the university will continue working closely with Dong Thap to implement joint programs and help address practical challenges in the province’s development. 

At the ceremony, Vice Chairman Huynh Minh Tuan and Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai signed the 2026-2030 cooperation agreement in the presence of provincial leaders and the Can Tho University delegation. The agreement marks a new milestone in the partnership between the two sides, aiming to maximize their respective strengths and contribute to the sustainable development of Dong Thap Province.
