(DTO) – The People's Committee of Dong Thap Province has approved the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for Component Project 2 of the Ho Chi Minh City–Long An–Tien Giang Urban Transport Axis project passing through Dong Thap Province, which has been renamed the Ho Chi Minh City–Tay Ninh–Dong Thap Urban Transport Axis.

The project ends at Km49+600 on National Highway 50, at the Trung Luong intersection in Trung An Ward.

According to the approval, the project stretches approximately 14 kilometres, passing through four communes and wards: Trung An Ward, Dao Thanh Ward, Luong Hoa Lac Commune, and My Tinh An Commune in Dong Thap Province. The route will begin at Km35+600 on National Highway 50B (at the boundary between Tay Ninh and Dong Thap provinces) and end at Km49+600 on National Highway 50 (at the Trung Luong intersection in Trung An Ward). A completely new roadway, approximately 14 kilometres long, will be constructed.

Within urban areas, the roadbed will be 40 metres wide with a six-lane carriageway measuring 22.5 metres. In non-urban sections, the roadbed will be 31 metres wide with a six-lane carriageway measuring 21 metres. The project also includes the development of bridges, culverts, and other structures built synchronously with the roadway's scale, featuring an HL-93 design load, together with intersections and supporting infrastructure. The project has a total investment of VND 4.279 trillion, funded by central and provincial budgets, and is scheduled for implementation over six years.

To facilitate site clearance and construction, the project has been divided into two component projects. Component Project 1 covers compensation, support, and resettlement, with an estimated investment of VND 2.181 trillion. Component Project 2 involves the construction of the Urban Transport Axis through Dong Thap Province, with an estimated investment of VND 2.098 trillion.

The axis will connect major transport routes in the region, including National Highways 50, 50B, 1, and 60, creating a vital traffic artery spanning from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Thap. The project is expected to strengthen connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region and vice versa, boosting regional linkage.
