Dong Thap Invests Over 1 Trillion VND in Power Grid Development
(DTO) The Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee has approved a list of investments in the province’s medium- and low-voltage power grids for 2026 (additional projects) and 2027, with total funding of more than 1.007 trillion VND. The projects focus on improving power supply reliability, preventing overloading, and meeting the electricity needs of local production, businesses and households.
Under Decision No. 2852 dated September 9, 2026, the province will invest in about 452 km of medium-voltage lines during 2026-2027, including more than 143 km of new lines and over 308 km of upgraded lines. More than 875 km of low-voltage lines will also be developed, including 244 km of new lines and over 630 km of upgraded lines.
In addition, 1,469 transformer stations will be newly installed, upgraded in capacity or renovated, with a combined capacity of 270.99 MVA. Total funding of more than 1.007 trillion VND will come from the power sector’s depreciation funds and commercial credit loans.
In 2026, the additional investment list has a total budget of more than 114 billion VND, covering nearly 29 km of medium-voltage lines, more than 37 km of low-voltage lines and 31 transformer stations. Several projects will address areas at risk of overloading, including measures to relieve the load on the Cai Be 110 kV substation by connecting its outgoing feeder to the Thap Muoi 110 kV substation and utilizing capacity at the Sa Dec 110 kV substation.
In 2027, more than 893 billion VND is expected to be allocated for 27 project packages across various communes and wards in the province. The projects are scheduled to begin construction in the first quarter of 2027 and be completed within the year.
The coordinated investment in the power grid will ensure 22 kV interconnection between 110/22 kV substations, improve the utilization of substation capacity, and gradually upgrade the power system from single-phase to three-phase in suitable areas. These measures will help reduce transformer overloading, shorten power supply distances, minimize power losses and improve the quality of electricity supply.
The projects are also expected to address concerns and petitions raised by voters regarding power infrastructure, while ensuring a safe and stable electricity supply for agricultural and industrial production, trade and services, and household use.
The Provincial People’s Committee has assigned Dong Thap Power Company as the investor, instructing it to proactively arrange funding and organize the implementation of the projects according to schedule. The company is also required to coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade and the People’s Committees of communes and wards to ensure the projects’ progress, quality and investment efficiency.
