Dong Thap Labels Age of Heritage Fruit Trees Ahead of Inaugural Fruit Festival
(DTO) Mr. Le Chi Thien, Deputy Director of the Dong Thap Department of Agriculture and Environment, together with representatives of provincial specialized agencies and leaders of the Phu Huu Commune People's Committee, recently attended a ceremony to honor and install age-identification plaques for long-standing fruit trees at three exemplary orchards in the commune.
The activity is part of the "Age Tagging for Trees and Fruits" initiative in preparation for the inaugural Dong Thap Fruit Festival in 2026.

The three honored orchard owners are Mr Vo Van Hung from An Hoa 1 Hamlet, whose 20-year-old Chau Thanh longan tree was recognized; Mr. Nguyen Van Giao from Phu My Luong Hamlet, owner of a 22-year-old Chin Hoa durian tree; and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung from Phu Hung 2 Hamlet, owner of a 26-year-old Chuong Bo durian tree.

During the visits, the delegation presented tree-age recognition plaques and learned about the growers’ efforts in preserving and nurturing local specialty fruit varieties. These long-established fruit trees hold significant economic value and have contributed to shaping the reputation of Phu Huu’s fruit industry as well as Dong Thap’s broader agricultural brand.
The "Age Tagging for Trees and Fruits" initiative not only honors dedicated orchardists but also helps preserve valuable plant genetic resources, promote the province’s agricultural image, and create highlights for eco-tourism and orchard-based experiences during the inaugural Dong Thap Fruit Festival in 2026.
