Dong Thap Launches Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2026
(DTO) On the morning of April 15, at the Provincial Cultural and Event Center, the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee held the launching ceremony in response to the 5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day, themed “Books - Knowledge - Aspiration for National Development.”
The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Thi Hien, Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education; Pham Nguyen Hoang Vu, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee’s Commission for Information, Education, and Mass Mobilization; leaders of provincial departments and sectors, along with a large number of students and readers from across the province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Binh Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that organizing Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day (annually on April 21) aims to honor the value of books and affirm the importance of reading culture in social life. It contributes to enhancing public knowledge, fostering character, developing thinking, and nurturing the aspiration to rise in every resident.

In recent years, the reading movement and the building of a learning society in the province have seen positive progress. Various effective models have been maintained and expanded, such as learning-promotion bookcases, family bookcases, reading clubs, and school libraries. These efforts have gradually shaped a reading habit within the community, especially among younger generations.

At the ceremony, participating units introduced and shared outstanding models for promoting reading culture in schools, among youth, and within the library system. They also spread inspiring stories from individuals who have made notable contributions to reading movements.

On this occasion, many organizations and individuals donated thousands of book titles and financial support to the provincial Association for Promoting Education. These contributions will help build and replenish bookshelves for schools in remote and disadvantaged areas, bringing knowledge closer to local communities.
According to the plan, activities in response to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2026 in Dong Thap will take place from April 15 to May 2, featuring a wide range of events such as book exhibitions, contests, author-reader exchanges, thematic talks, and reading-promotion activities in schools.
The launching ceremony is a practical activity aimed at continuing to foster a passion for reading, building reading habits among the public, and contributing to the development of reading culture, helping cultivate the affectionate, dynamic, and creative spirit of the Dong Thap people in the new era.
