Dong Thap Opens Nine Free Public Water Taps for Residents During Dry Season
(DTO) To date, Dong Thap Province has opened nine public water taps to provide free water to residents during the 2025–2026 dry season.

According to the Dong Thap Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), saltwater intrusion in 2026 arrived approximately 15 days later than the multi-year average and 20 days later than in 2025.
Monitoring data shows that the highest salinity level on the Tien River to date occurred during the high tide at the end of the last lunar month, intruding 49 km inland with a measured salinity of 0.45 g/l.
Currently, saltwater intrusion on the Tien River in the Dong Thap area remains lower than the multi-year average and 2025 levels, resulting in minimal impact on agricultural production and daily life.
Notably, the province has successfully protected agricultural production areas and ensured an adequate domestic water supply for residents in the Go Cong Desalinization Project and the Phu Thanh - Phu Dong Project areas.
To guarantee domestic water for the people during the dry season, local authorities consistently campaign for residents to increase water storage and use water economically and for the right purposes. The Dong Tam Water Plant Joint Stock Company frequently inspects and test-operates the Sau Au Pumping Station and six backup wells, ensuring they are ready for exploitation.
The Tien Giang Water Supply Co., Ltd. has proactively pumped and stored water in reservoirs for treatment and supply; it also regularly inspects and test-operates 16 backup wells. Simultaneously, nine public water taps have been opened (2 in Tan Phu Dong Commune, 1 in Tan Hoa Commune, 4 in Tan Dien Commune, and 2 in Go Cong Dong Commune) to provide free water. Total water supplied to date exceeds 164 m3.
Additionally, the company has operated five backup wells (one in My Tho Ward and four in Tan Thuan Binh Commune), with a total output of over 78,481 m3 since March 3, 2026.
