Dong Thap: Organizing a Joyful, Safe, and Economical 2026 Lunar New Year

(DTO) On January 19, the Provincial People's Committee issued a Directive regarding the organization of a joyful, healthy, safe, and economical Lunar New Year (Tet) 2026 - Year of the Horse across Dong Thap province.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the heads of provincial departments, agencies, and the Chairmen of People's Committees of communes and wards to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement Directive No. 55-CT/TW dated December 22, 2025, of the Secretariat; Directive No. 36/CT-TTg dated December 31, 2025, of the Prime Minister; and Dispatch No. 217-CV/TU dated January 14, 2026, of the Provincial Party Standing Committee on the organization of the 2026 Lunar New Year. Heads of agencies must uphold their responsibility and remain ready to respond to any situation.

Authorities are to focus on leadership, direction and the resolute, synchronized and effective implementation of emulation movements; ensure effective social welfare policies; uphold the tradition of national unity and the spirit of mutual support; and proactively and actively take good care of the material and spiritual life of the people, ensuring that every household can enjoy the spring and celebrate Tet.

The province is to accelerate project implementation, complete assigned social housing targets, and continue reviewing, repairing and constructing houses to ensure no temporary or dilapidated housing remains. Conditions must be well prepared to ensure timely payment of salaries and Tet bonuses for workers.

Localities and units are to properly organize visits, encouragement and Tet greetings for veteran revolutionaries, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, war invalids, sick soldiers, families of martyrs, families with meritorious services to the revolution, policy beneficiary families, intellectuals, distinguished religious dignitaries, armed forces units and on-duty forces during the Tet holiday, especially in border areas and locations with complex security, politics, order, and social safety situations.

The Directive calls for strengthened leadership, inspection and supervision in combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods; strict inspection, monitoring, detection, prevention and handling of illegal importation, transportation and trading of goods, food and animals into the province.

Strict compliance with regulations on public service culture, administrative discipline and order is required; wastefulness and misconduct must be prevented. It is strictly prohibited to organize visits or Tet greetings to superiors and leaders at all levels; provincial delegations are not to visit or extend Tet greetings to Party committees and authorities of communes and wards; the use of public funds to give Tet gifts to leaders in any form is strictly forbidden. State budget funds, vehicles and public assets must not be misused for festivals or entertainment activities. Driving after consuming alcohol is prohibited; leaders may only attend pagoda ceremonies or festivals when assigned; superstition and social evils must not be encouraged.

Cultural, commemorative, year-end review, early-year meetings, tree-planting activities and festivals must be well organized and managed in a practical, civilized and economical manner, avoiding formality and waste.

Authorities are to strengthen the detection, prevention and strict handling of acts causing harassment or inconvenience to businesses and citizens in administrative procedures, and to enhance measures to prevent corruption and misconduct in public service activities.

Favorable conditions should be created for enterprises to stabilize and maintain production and business operations, striving to achieve the highest possible results for assigned targets and indicators. Analysis and forecasting work must be strengthened to promptly implement appropriate management measures.

Relevant forces and means must be proactively arranged to ensure continuous duty and timely handling of tasks, with strict adherence to information and reporting regimes; administrative procedures for citizens and businesses must not be delayed or congested.

Immediately after the Tet holiday, agencies, organizations, units and localities are required to urgently and synchronously implement key tasks for 2026, especially major policies of the Central Government and the province; accelerate and make breakthroughs to successfully achieve socio-economic development goals and tasks for 2026 and the entire term; and speed up the implementation of investment projects under approved plans, particularly key and large-scale projects.

The Directive also emphasizes strengthening national defense and security, maintaining social order and safety, and ensuring cybersecurity. Authorities must proactively prevent, detect early, and promptly and effectively handle complex situations; intensify patrols and controls to ensure traffic order and safety, social security, fire and explosion prevention, disease prevention, accidents and injuries. Strict compliance with regulations on the management and use of fireworks and explosive materials is required, with determination to prevent illegal production, trading and use that could threaten security and safety during the Tet holiday.
