Dong Thap: Over 4,250 students sit for provincial high school excellent student exam
(DTO) On the afternoon of March 6, the Dong Thap Department of Education and Training organized the Provincial Gifted Student Examination for the 2025–2026 academic year.
A total of 4,258 high school students – including those in general education and continuing education programs – participated in the exam. All candidates achieved academic performance and conduct ratings of fair or higher in the first semester of the 2025–2026 school year. Each student was allowed to register for only one subject.

According to regulations, each specialized high school is allowed to nominate up to 20 students for each subject, while other high schools and continuing education institutions may nominate up to 10 students per subject.
Among the 10 exam subjects – Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, History, Geography, English, Economic and Legal Education, and Informatics – Literature recorded the highest number of candidates with 537 students, followed by History (510 students) and Mathematics (471 students). Other subjects included Physics (446 students), Geography (434 students), Chemistry (416 students), Biology (385 students), Informatics (226 students), Economic and Legal Education (408 students), and English (425 students).
Most subjects were conducted in essay format with a duration of 180 minutes. The Informatics exam required students to complete programming tasks on computers, while the English exam included an additional listening comprehension section.
To organize the examination, the Dong Thap Department of Education and Training established five exam councils at the following schools: Nguyen Dinh Chieu High School, Nguyen Quang Dieu Specialized High School, Cao Lanh High School, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Specialized High School and Hong Ngu 1 High School.
After the examination day concluded, all test papers were transferred to the grading council for marking and results announcement according to the planned schedule.
The exam aims to identify and nurture academically talented students, while also creating motivation to promote the “teaching well – learning well” movement across high schools. The results will be used to recognize provincial-level excellent students and serve as a basis for schools to continue developing plans to train high-achieving students in the coming academic years.
