Dong Thap: Over VND 600 Billion in Goods Reserved for 2026 Lunar New Year (Binh Ngo)

(DTO) In an effort to stabilize the market and ensure social welfare, the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee has officially issued a plan for stockpiling and supplying essential goods to meet consumer demand during the 2026 Lunar New Year (Binh Ngo).

According to forecasts, from January 19, 2026 (the 1st day of the 12th lunar month) to March 18, 2026 (the 30th day of the 1st lunar month), total demand for essential commodities across the province is estimated at approximately 57,684.6 tons. Key items include 20,976.22 tons of livestock meat, 18,354.19 tons of poultry, more than 6,555 tons each of rice and sugar, and 5,244.06 tons of cooking oil.

Enterprises across the province have registered to stockpile goods with a total capital value of VND 604.6 billion, of which essential commodities account for more than VND 228 billion. In addition, Dong Thap’s agricultural output in 2025 remained abundant, with 4.1 million tons of rice, 1.5 million tons of vegetables, and 28 million poultry, ensuring sufficient supply for local consumption as well as neighboring areas.

Consumers can shop through an extensive distribution network comprising 351 traditional markets province-wide, 115 Bach Hoa Xanh stores, 23 WinMart+ convenience stores, and 29 registered price-stabilization sales points.

To keep prices reasonable, the province encourages participating enterprises to offer prices at least 5% lower than prevailing market prices at the time of registration. Meanwhile, nine enterprises have been supported with preferential-interest loans from commercial banks, with total registered borrowing expected to exceed VND 86.6 billion over a four-month period.

The Provincial People’s Committee has instructed the Department of Industry and Trade and relevant agencies to closely monitor market developments and strictly handle acts of speculation, hoarding, unreasonable price hikes, or the trading of counterfeit and substandard goods. Localities are also required to facilitate goods transportation and organize “Vietnamese Goods Fairs” in rural areas and industrial zones to better serve the public.
