Dong Thap Party Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong surveys key development projects in eastern Dong Thap
(DTO) On the afternoon of May 7, a working delegation led by Mr. Ngo Chi Cuong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, conducted a field survey of major projects and infrastructure works in the eastern area of Dong Thap. Joining the delegation was Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dieu, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.
As part of efforts to develop marine-based economic sectors in association with national defense and security, environmental protection and marine resource management, the delegation surveyed several projects, including the Soai Rap Industrial Park; Gia Thuan Industrial Clusters 1 and 2 in Gia Thuan Commune; the Gia Thuan – Tan Dien urban, industrial and seaport area in Gia Thuan and Tan Dien communes; the Go Cong waste treatment site; and the Tan Phu Dong wind power plant in Go Cong Dong Commune.

To capitalize on local potential and advantages, the province is focusing on reorganizing coastal development space to become a new growth driver, with the marine economy serving as the central pillar.
At the same time, the province aims to effectively mobilize and utilize resources to promote rapid and sustainable socio-economic development; prioritize investment in modern and integrated infrastructure; and accelerate the application of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation to create breakthroughs in marine economic development.
The province is also expanding marine economic development space in connection with coastal tourism urban areas, aquaculture, wind power and the restoration and conservation of coastal ecosystems. The consistent orientation is sustainable development based on green growth, biodiversity conservation and marine ecosystem protection, thereby maximizing marine potential to drive the province’s economic growth.
Dong Thap identifies its marine and coastal areas as strategic zones of particular importance for socio-economic development associated with national defense and security. In this context, urban development, tourism, fisheries and seaports are identified as key economic sectors.
Marine economic development must ensure sustainability while being closely linked with environmental protection and the regeneration of aquatic resources, as well as maintaining national defense and safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
After hearing reports and conducting field inspections of planning orientations, Ngo Chi Cuong requested relevant units to accelerate efforts to attract investment into the Soai Rap Industrial Park. Regarding Gia Thuan Industrial Clusters 1 and 2, priority should be given to attracting high-value manufacturing industries that can make positive contributions to the province’s socio-economic development.

Regarding Tan Thanh Beach, Party Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong noted that the area still holds considerable development potential. Therefore, relevant departments and sectors should focus on implementing solutions to promote coastal tourism associated with trade, services and urban development, thereby creating new growth momentum for the eastern region of the province.
Party Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong emphasized that development planning must ensure coordination and harmony among industry, seaports, urban areas and trade-service sectors. All related contents must be fully reviewed and updated in planning documents before submission to competent authorities for approval.
Relevant sectors and localities were also requested to compile comprehensive reports on marine economic development and all issues surveyed during the working trip for submission to competent authorities for consideration and implementation approval.
The delegation also visited the Tan Phu Dong Wind Power Plant. Representatives of the plant reported on current operations and future development plans in the province. The plant currently has a total installed capacity of 150 MW, with two project zones operating effectively. In addition, the enterprise is implementing the Tan Thanh Wind Power Plant project with a total investment of approximately VND4.7 trillion. The project is expected to generate around 264 million kW/h annually and is scheduled to begin operations in 2027.

Speaking during the visit, Party Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong acknowledged and highly appreciated the enterprise’s contributions to renewable energy development, helping promote economic restructuring and sustainable local development.
He expressed hope that the enterprise would continue expanding investment, applying advanced technologies and improving operational efficiency, thereby making greater contributions to the province’s socio-economic growth in the coming years.

On this occasion, the delegation also offered incense and flowers at the temple dedicated to national hero Truong Dinh in Gia Thuan Commune and visited the restoration and conservation area of the “Dam La Toi Troi” historical site, once a resistance base of Truong Dinh’s insurgent forces.
