Dong Thap Plans Third Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Plant Festival for 2027
(DTO) On the morning of November 5, in Sa Dec Ward, Huynh Minh Tuan, member of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, chaired a meeting with provincial departments and agencies and the Sa Dec Ward People’s Committee to discuss plans for the third Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Plant Festival in 2027. The meeting was also connected online with the My Phong Ward People’s Committee.

Participants focused on proposals for the festival’s theme, timing and activities, aiming to establish a distinctive identity and attract domestic and international visitors. Several delegates proposed signature activities incorporating advanced technology applications and suitable record-setting initiatives; performances on the Sa Dec River; displays of new flower varieties and unique floral and ornamental plant arrangements; as well as competitions and performances throughout the festival.
They also suggested strengthening connections among travel tours and routes to extend visitors' length of stay, and holding specialised seminars to address practical difficulties facing flower growers and promote the sustainable development of the industry. My Phong Ward outlined several proposed activities to coincide with and connect to the festival, helping expand its scope and reach.
The festival is tentatively scheduled to take place in late 2027 and early 2028 on a provincial scale. It is expected to attract around one million visitor arrivals and feature more than 10 main activities, alongside various supporting, communications and promotional programmes.
In his concluding remarks, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Huynh Minh Tuan asked relevant agencies to continue refining the festival’s theme and individual activities to ensure a diverse and attractive programme with distinctive highlights.
He called for the staging of an international marathon; greater emphasis on Sa Dec’s architectural, cultural and heritage values, as well as its distinctive urban character; and a well-organised programme featuring an impressive opening ceremony and evening performances for visitors throughout the festival.
The provincial official also stressed the importance of choosing dates that coincide with holiday periods to attract more visitors, securing private-sector funding to develop iconic symbols with lasting value, considering appropriate record-setting initiatives, and stepping up communications and promotion. These efforts are expected to raise the profile of the Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Plant Festival and Dong Thap tourism.
