(DTO) On the morning of July 8, Major General Lam Phuoc Nguyen, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Dong Thap Provincial Police, chaired a conference reviewing police work in the first six months of 2026 and summarizing the high-intensity crime crackdown campaign conducted during the April 30 and May 1 holidays.

Overview of the conference.

The conference was attended by Mr. Nguyen Van Muoi, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; representatives of the Central Internal Affairs Commission's local affairs departments, the Office of the Party Central Committee, the Central Organization Commission, the Central Commission for Propaganda and Education, and the Central Commission for Mass Mobilization; leaders of provincial departments and agencies, as well as leaders of professional divisions of the provincial police and chiefs of commune- and ward-level police units.

Over the past period, security along the Dong Thap–Prey Veng (Cambodia) land border was maintained through proactive and decisive measures. Authorities detected and handled 70 cases of illegal entry, while swiftly dismantling two criminal networks and prosecuting two cases involving two suspects for organizing the illegal exit of foreigners into Cambodia.

Police also handled 124 cases involving the posting and dissemination of toxic and malicious information. Four suspects were prosecuted on charges of "carrying out activities aimed at overthrowing the people's administration" and "producing, storing, disseminating or propagating information, documents and materials against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam." These achievements were commended by the Ministry of Public Security, while the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee presented the force with ad-hoc commendations in recognition of its outstanding efforts.

Mr. Committee Nguyen Van Muoi addresses the conference.

In addition to maintaining political security, the police achieved notable results in combating various types of crime, contributing to a reduction of more than 10% in crimes against social order compared to the same period last year.

Police detected and handled 548 cases involving 492 offenders related to corruption, economic and environmental crimes, along with 469 drug-related cases involving 668 offenders. Authorities also arrested or persuaded 39 wanted fugitives to surrender.

Meanwhile, police dismantled 365 gambling rings involving more than 2,100 participants and uncovered four prostitution cases involving 18 individuals, raising the crime clearance rate to over 94%.

Alongside efforts to combat criminal offenses, authorities strengthened the management of weapons and explosives, detecting and handling 18 cases involving 28 violators and confiscating nearly 1,500 weapons and supporting tools of various kinds. Comprehensive measures to ensure traffic safety also produced positive results, with traffic accidents declining by 13.7% in number of cases and injuries dropping by 42% compared to the same period in 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Van Muoi  presents Government Emulation Flags to three outstanding units for their achievements in the 2025 "For National Security" emulation movement.

Regarding the "All People Protect National Security" movement, the provincial police continued to foster broad public participation, highlighted by the launch of two new initiatives: "Direct Engagement of Two-Tier Local Party Committees and Authorities in Security and Order Maintenance" and "Three Companionships with Religious Communities." In addition, 11 existing operational models under the movement were strengthened, while 10 "Skillful Mass Mobilization" initiatives were maintained and expanded. Policies, benefits, and professional training for grassroots security and order forces also received continued attention.

Building on these achievements, during the peak campaign to combat crime and maintain security and public order over the April 30 and May 1 holidays, the entire provincial police force demonstrated a high sense of responsibility, proactively preventing and effectively combating hostile sabotage activities alongside various forms of crime and legal violations. As a result, crimes against social order plummeted by 55.26% compared to the same period in 2025. At the same time, the detection and handling rates for corruption, economic, smuggling, environmental, drug, and gambling offenses saw a significant year-on-year increase compared to both the same period in 2025 and the pre-campaign timeframe.

Major General Lam Phuoc Nguyen presents Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to outstanding units and individuals.

Addressing the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Muoi commended the achievements of the provincial police and called on the force to continue innovating its leadership and operational methods, drastically shifting their working mindsets, accelerating digital transformation, and leveraging science, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) in policing operations.

He also stressed the need for close coordination with provincial departments and agencies to effectively implement “the National Defense Strategy” and “the National Security Strategy” in the new era, closely linking security with economic, cultural, social, and external affairs, while strengthening national defense and security capabilities. The provincial police were also urged to enhance external relations and international cooperation, particularly with the authorities of Cambodia's Prey Veng Province in maintaining security and public order, while striving to fulfill and surpass all performance targets assigned by the Ministry of Public Security for 2026.

Major General Lam Phuoc Nguyen called on the entire force to further strengthen solidarity, determination, and discipline while continuously improving their etiquette, conduct, and service quality for the public. In the coming period, the force will focus on advising and implementing measures to safeguard national security and social order in line with the resolutions on the National Security Strategy and on Building an Orderly, Disciplined, Safe, Civilized, Harmonious, and Developed Society.

The provincial police will also continue reviewing, refining, and maximizing the effectiveness of the two-tier local policing model, while concentrating resources on strengthening grassroots policing under the "Year of Grassroots Personnel Work" initiative. Through these efforts, the force aims to reduce crimes against social order by 10%, thereby contributing to political stability, public security, and social order, while fueling the province's socio-economic development and external relations.

In recognition of their outstanding achievements, the Organizing Committee presented Government Emulation Flags to three units for excellence in the 2025 "For National Security" emulation movement. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also awarded Certificates of Merit to 19 units and individuals for their outstanding performance during the peak campaign against crime and law violations, ensuring absolute security and public order for the 14th National Party Congress.
