Dong Thap Prepares to Receive 12 Red-Crowned Cranes

(DTO) On the afternoon of September 22, Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien chaired a working session with relevant agencies to review preparations for welcoming 12 red-crowned cranes donated by the Kingdom of Thailand.

Earlier, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc sanctioned the initiative, allowing the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee to receive the red-crowned cranes from Thailand.

The flock comprises eight juvenile cranes, about one year old, and four adult cranes aged between 18 and 23. The birds are expected to be transported to Vietnam on September 30.

To date, Tram Chim National Park has completed all import and quarantine procedures, while finalizing plans for transportation, arranging enclosures, and securing food supplies to ensure proper care for the flock through the end of the year.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien directed relevant departments, agencies, and units to closely coordinate and complete all required protocols, particularly quarantine procedures and CITES certificates, to ensure a seamless, safe, and lawful reception.

At the same time, preparations for receiving, handing over, and transporting the cranes to Tram Chim National Park must be carried out meticulously, ensuring optimal conditions throughout the entire transit.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien also called for intensified public awareness campaigns regarding the Project on Conservation and Development of Red-Crowned Cranes at Tram Chim National Park, thereby rallying support from organizations, experts, scientists, and the community to join efforts in conserving this endangered bird species.
