Dong Thap: Sa Dec, Hong Ngu, And Giong Gang Bridges Completed
(DTO) On April 19, Mr. Hoang Nam Ha, Project Director for the "Elevating Vertical Clearance of Road Bridges Crossing National Inland Waterways – Phase 1 (Southern Region)" under the Maritime and Waterway Project Management Board (Ministry of Construction), announced that three bridges within the project located in Dong Thap province-Sa Dec, Hong Ngu, and Giong Gang-have been completed.

According to Mr. Hoang Nam Ha, the Sa Dec, Hong Ngu, and Giong Gang bridges are now finished and operational. The unit is currently processing the necessary procedures for official acceptance and handover to the local authorities.
The project to elevate the vertical clearance of road bridges crossing national inland waterways – Phase 1 (Southern Region) was approved by the Ministry of Transport (now managed by the Ministry of Construction) with a total investment of over 2,155 billion VND.
The project involves constructing 9 new bridges, upgrading 1 bridge, and dismantling 1 bridge that crosses national inland waterways to improve the transportation infrastructure system in the Mekong Delta.
The project is divided into two main construction packages:
- CĐT-XL01: Construction of Moc Hoa, Sa Dec, Hong Ngu, and Mo Cay bridges; upgrading Giong Gang bridge; and dismantling Mang Thit bridge.
- CĐT-XL02: Construction of Dong Thuan, Dong Binh, O Mon, Thoi Lai, and Vam Xang – Thi Doi bridges.
Specifically within Dong Thap province, the Sa Dec and Hong Ngu bridges were newly built, while the Giong Gang bridge underwent renovations and upgrades.
Once fully completed, the project will ensure synchronized operation of waterway transport across the entire route. Furthermore, it will enhance the capacity for inland waterway cargo transport between the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as to seaport clusters in the Southeast region and vice versa.
The project will actively contribute to the goals of poverty reduction, socio-economic development, and reducing accident rates on both road and waterway routes. It also ensures national defense and security in the border areas of the Mekong Delta provinces and promotes the synchronized development of the region's transportation network.
