Dong Thap Steps Up Preparations to Start Coastal Road Project in First Quarter of 2027
(DTO) Dong Thap Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Dieu chaired a meeting on the afternoon of September 29 to review the implementation of preparation tasks for Phase 1 of the coastal road project running through Tien Giang Province and connecting with Long An and Ben Tre provinces, now spanning Dong Thap, Tay Ninh and Vinh Long provinces.
The project, with the Dong Thap Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board as the investor, has a total investment of more than VND 7.095 trillion, including approximately VND 4.136 trillion in loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and local counterpart funding.
The road will begin at its intersection with Provincial Road 871B in Gia Thuan Commune and end at its connection with the bridge project across the Tien River (Cua Dai channel) in Tan Phu Dong Commune. It will pass through Gia Thuan, Tan Dong, Tan Dien, Go Cong Dong and Tan Phu Dong communes, requiring approximately 88 hectares of land, including public land such as roads, canals, ditches, and waterways.
According to the feasibility study report, the project aims to connect Dong Thap's coastal transport corridor with coastal provinces in the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City. It is expected to expand development space, create land reserves for production and business activities, and improve the efficiency of marine resource exploitation. The road will also help attract investment to the province's eastern industrial area, promote urban development, tourism and aquaculture, and strengthen national defense and security.
The road could also be integrated with the Go Cong sea dyke to resettle coastal communities, helping minimize damage caused by natural disasters, climate change and rising sea levels. It will also contribute to gradually completing the Mekong Delta's transport network.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Dieu proposed including the project in the list of key provincial projects. Regarding site clearance, he asked the provincial Land Fund Development Center to work closely with local authorities to ensure effective compensation, support and resettlement, safeguarding the rights and stabilizing the lives of affected residents.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment was asked to urgently review resettlement areas and ensure adequate transport, electricity, water supply and other essential infrastructure to accommodate households affected by the project.
Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Dieu emphasized that land variation registration procedures must be updated promptly as soon as site clearance is completed in each area to prevent backlogs from affecting the overall schedule. Relevant units were also required to submit weekly progress reports so that difficulties and obstacles could be addressed in a timely manner.
He urged the investor to proactively prepare all necessary conditions to commence construction in the first quarter of 2027, accelerate bidding procedures, engage with investors and finalize project documentation. The investor was also asked to strive to hand over the site by the end of the year to ensure the project proceeds on schedule.
