Dong Thap Takes 39 War Veterans to Visit Phu Quoc Prison

(DTO) On the evening of April 19, under the 2026 program to care for people with meritorious service, the Department of Home Affairs, in coordination with the Dong Thap Provincial Veterans Association, organized a trip for 39 war veterans to visit Phu Quoc Prison. 

The visit is scheduled from April 20 to April 22, 2026. According to the program, the veterans will visit the memorial monument and the Phu Quoc Prison relic site, where revolutionary soldiers were imprisoned and tortured during the two wars for national independence. 

They will also tour scenic attractions on Pearl Island at the southern tip of the country. 

Before the trip, the Department of Home Affairs held a meeting to extend greetings and deliver gifts from provincial leaders to the participating veterans. 

Organizing visits for veterans and people with meritorious service to revisit Phu Quoc Prison is one of the notable activities reflecting Vietnam’s tradition of gratitude and remembrance.

It also demonstrates the appreciation and gratitude of the Party, authorities, and people of Dong Thap Province toward those who have contributed to the revolutionary cause. 

According to Nguyen Thi Kieu Loan, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs, the province plans in 2026 to organize visits for 100 veterans to Phu Quoc Prison and Con Dao Prison. 

The activity aims to fulfill veterans’ wishes to visit Con Dao and Phu Quoc prisons, while creating opportunities for them to meet and reconnect with fellow soldiers, revisit heroic traditions, and share memories of their wartime experiences, helping them live happily and in good health.
