Dong Thap to launch two key transport projects worth over VND 1.44 trillion in early July
(DTO) Construction for Phase 1 of the Dong Thap Muoi Regional Development Road Project and the Provincial Road 878 Upgrading and Expansion Project is expected to commence in early July 2026, as contractor selection has been finalized, according to Mr. Tran Minh Trung, Director of the Dong Thap Provincial Transportation Construction Investment Project Management Board.

The first phase of the Dong Thap Muoi Regional Development Road project spans 7.51 kilometers, with a roadway width of 7 meters and a roadbed width of 9 meters. With a total investment of more than VND 822 billion, the project passes through Tan Huong and Tan Phuoc 3 communes in Dong Thap Province. Site clearance will be carried out along a corridor approximately 7.51 kilometers long and 80 meters wide to accommodate road construction and resettlement areas.
The project aims to establish a transport connection from the Than Cuu Nghia interchange on the Trung Luong – Ho Chi Minh City Expressway to the central area of Tan Phuoc.
Together with Provincial Roads 865 and 867, the route will form a regional transport corridor linking the Dong Thap Muoi region, creating favorable conditions to attract investment into industrial parks and clusters, thereby contributing to budget revenues and socio-economic development.

Meanwhile, the project to upgrade and expand Provincial Road 878 has a total alignment length of approximately 12.84 kilometers, including 12.72 kilometers along the existing alignment and 0.12 kilometers of connecting road to the Than Cuu Nghia interchange approach road. The project consists of four sections.
The route begins at the expressway access road in Long Hung Commune and ends at its intersection with Provincial Road 865 in Hung Thanh Commune. The project traverses Long Hung, Tan Huong, Tan Phuoc 3 and Hung Thanh communes in Dong Thap Province.
The route is designed as a Grade III plain road, with a 12-ton design axle load and a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour. Sections 1 and 4, along with the connecting road to the Than Cuu Nghia interchange approach, will have four lanes, while Sections 2 and 3 will have eight lanes. The project includes the construction of six at-grade intersections, longitudinal drainage culverts along Section 1 and densely populated areas, lighting systems in selected residential zones and intersections, and comprehensive traffic safety facilities.
The project has a total investment of approximately VND 625 billion sourced from both central and local budgets and is expected to be implemented over a four-year period.
The upgrading and expansion of Provincial Road 878 aims to improve connectivity between National Highway 1, the Trung Luong – My Thuan Expressway, the access road to Long Giang Industrial Park, and Provincial Road 865 leading to Tay Ninh Province and Ho Chi Minh City.
This initiative ensures smoother and safer traffic flow, enhances transport efficiency, and maximizes the utility of the existing transport network. It will also catalyze investment in industrial parks and high-profile industrial clusters, contributing to increased budget revenues and socio-economic growth in Dong Thap Province.
With the simultaneous implementation of the two projects in early July 2026, Dong Thap continues to demonstrate its resolute commitment to developing a modern and synchronized transport infrastructure system. The projects are expected to play a significant role in strengthening regional connectivity, unlocking new avenues for investment attraction, and effectively capitalizing on the development potential of the Dong Thap Muoi region in the coming years.
