Dong Thap Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien Surveys Go Cong Freshwater Transfer Project
(DTO) On September 22, Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien, alongside officials from specialized agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and relevant provincial departments, conducted a field survey of the planned route and proposed locations for key components of the Project to Transfer Freshwater via the Cho Gao Canal to the Go Cong Freshened Area (the Project).

The delegation began their inspection at the intersection of the Nguyen Tan Thanh and Mot canals, which serves as the starting point of the Project. They then proceeded to evaluate proposed investment locations for key components at Ben Chua Bridge, Go Cat Bridge, and the inverted siphon clusters at the Tan Thuan Binh sluice gate and the head of the Binh Phan Canal.
According to the proposed investment policy report, the Project carries an estimated total investment of VND 2.9 trillion, sourced from central and local budgets. Implementation is scheduled for the 2027–2030 period.
The Project aims to dredge existing canals to convey water along a 40-kilometer route encompassing the Nguyen Tan Thanh, Phu Chung Ben Chua, and Bao Dinh canals, the Hoc Dung, Ba Ngot, Go Cat-Hoc Luu, and Ong Van creeks, and the Tan Thuan Binh Canal before reaching the inverted siphon cluster.
A centerpiece of the initiative is the construction of a 130-meter inverted siphon cluster crossing the Cho Gao Canal. This facility will utilize 3D2000 steel pipelines with a flow capacity of 20 m³/s, integrated with a booster pumping station and regulating sluices.
Additionally, the Project will upgrade the Go Cong water transfer canals by dredging over 37 kilometers across three canals—Tham Thu, Tran Van Dong, and Champeaux—and constructing pumping stations integrated with sluice gates at the heads of the Tran Van Dong and Champeaux canals.

Developing this infrastructure for the Go Cong Freshened Area represents a strategic hydraulic engineering solution that yields multi-faceted socio-economic, environmental, and water-security benefits.
The Project will not only alleviate freshwater shortages during the dry season but also lay a durable foundation for the Go Cong area to pursue sustainable development aligned with industrialization, urbanization, services, marine tourism, and high-tech agriculture. Ultimately, it will safeguard domestic and production water supplies for approximately 500,000 residents in the region.
This project holds vital socio-economic significance for the Go Cong Freshened Area. The field survey serves to finalize the most effective investment options, paving the way for provincial approval of the investment policy and subsequent steps to accelerate deployment.
