Earth Hour 2026 - Youth-Led Projects Help Build Greener Rural Communities
(DTO) On March 28, in the spirit of Earth Hour 2026 and Youth Month, the Dong Thap Power Company, in collaboration with the Vietnam Electric Cable Corporation (CADIVI) and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of My Tra Ward, inaugurated two youth-led projects, “Lighting Rural Roads” and “Green Road,” in Mỹ Trà Ward.

The initiative aims to promote the active role of young people in building new-style rural areas and modern urban spaces, while spreading the message of energy conservation and efficient power use, turning Earth Hour commitments into practical, meaningful actions.

The “Lighting Rural Roads with Solar-Powered Lamps” project was implemented in Binh Dan and Hoa Dan hamlets of My Tra Ward, installing 60 solar streetlights along a 2-kilometer stretch. The project cost 140 million VND, jointly funded by Dong Thap Power Company and CADIVI.
Using solar lighting helps reduce electricity consumption and operating costs, while offering an environmentally friendly solution in line with sustainable development goals. The system also enhances public security and traffic safety, reduces nighttime accidents, and improves conditions for daily activities and local production.

According to Ha Thanh Phong, Deputy Director of Dong Thap Power Company, leading the implementation of these projects reflects the unit’s commitment to supporting local communities while advancing programs on economical and efficient energy use. The cooperation of CADIVI and local youth contributed to the project’s strong positive impact.

On this occasion, the Youth Unions of Dong Thap Power Company and CADIVI, together with the My Tra Ward Youth Union, also launched the “Green Road” project in An Dinh Hamlet, planting nearly 1,000 new trees to improve the neighborhood’s landscape, air quality, and overall environment.
By linking Earth Hour activities with on-the-ground youth-led projects, the program goes beyond awareness-building and translates environmental commitments into tangible actions. These efforts help raise public consciousness on environmental protection, promote sustainable energy use, and contribute to a greener, safer, and more livable Dong Thap.
