Lai Vung Commune Elevates Ecotourism and Orchard-Based Tourism
(DTO) - Lai Vung Commune is focusing on developing green tourism. To this end, local authorities and sectors are actively promoting the establishment of orchard and ecotourism destinations, laying the foundation for diverse and effective green tourism development.
At the same time, the locality is enhancing product quality and building brands for various fruit crops while gradually tapping into the potential of agricultural tourism and community-based tourism associated with craft villages.

With its advantageous location along the Hau River and fertile soil, Lai Vung has ideal conditions for developing fruit orchards. These orchards are not only agricultural production areas but are also being utilized as tourism destinations.
Recognizing the economic significance of fruit orchards, Mr. Doan Van Ngoc, owner of Ngoc Hoa Rambutan Orchard Tourist Site in Tan An Hamlet, has spent the past three years renovating aging, low-yield orchards to develop a model fruit orchard integrated with ecotourism.
Recently, Ngoc Hoa Rambutan Orchard Tourist Site has been bustling with visitors. Covering approximately 20,000 square meters, the site features a variety of fruit trees, including rambutan, mangosteen, and date palms.
In addition, the orchard features a variety of fruits, including menteng and Burmese grapes. Mr. Doan Van Ngoc shared: “Visitors can immerse themselves in the cool, green orchard environment and enjoy boat rides while taking photos around the area. To better serve visitors, we have installed thatched huts and comfortable resting areas where they can relax and enjoy fresh fruits harvested directly from the orchard. Visitors can also experience the rustic atmosphere of a natural orchard while savoring traditional dishes prepared from freshwater fish, chicken, duck, and other local ingredients. This creates a unique experience for those who enjoy exploring orchard-based tourism.”
Ms. Nguyen Tran Phuong Lan from Can Tho City, who visited the orchards in Lai Vung with her family, said: “My children were very excited to pick fruits themselves and learn how the trees are cared for. This type of tourism is especially suitable for families with young children.”

Sau Giang Burmese Grape Orchard Tourist Site in Tan Loi Hamlet has also become a popular destination for visitors from near and far. The site covers more than 8,000 square meters and features many varieties of the fruit. The lush trees, complemented by ornamental plants, create an attractive first impression for visitors entering the orchard.
According to the Lai Vung Commune People’s Committee, the commune currently has nine community-based tourism destinations, including one homestay, one craft village, and seven fruit orchards.
In recent years, the locality has implemented various coordinated measures to promote tourism development, particularly by helping residents access investment loans, expand tourism sites, and strengthen promotion through social media platforms.
Mr. Nguyen Van Minh Chay, Vice Chairman of the Lai Vung Commune People’s Committee, said: “In the coming period, the commune will focus on several key economic development goals, particularly tourism development linked to OCOP-certified products and new-style rural development programs, while investing in transportation infrastructure with the aim of elevating ecotourism. At the same time, we will encourage farmers to restore and expand fruit orchards, focusing on high-value and locally distinctive fruit varieties. We will also promote the production of fruit tree seedlings based on specialty crops and encourage farmers to apply advanced technologies and modern production processes. In addition, the locality will continue coordinating with relevant departments and agencies to further integrate fruit orchards with ecotourism models and support orchard owners in building and promoting their brands.”
