Lively Atmosphere at the First Molly Fish Mini Show

(DTO) On March 29, the Dong Thap Ornamental Fish Sub-Association held its first Molly Fish Mini Show, creating an engaging playground for ornamental fish keepers within and beyond the province.

More than 150 Molly tanks of various lines joined the competition, divided into four categories: round-tail males, round-tail females, lyre-tail males, and lyre-tail females. The entries were meticulously selected, showcasing the breeders’ investment from strain selection to daily care.

According to Nguyen Quoc Dat, Head of the Dong Thap Ornamental Fish Sub-Association, Molly fish were introduced to Vietnam and quickly won the hearts of hobbyists thanks to their ease of care, diverse colors, and varied forms.

In recent years, under the hands of skilled breeders, the quality of Molly fish has steadily improved, meeting market demand and gradually moving toward export potential.

To produce fish that meet competition standards, breeders must pay close attention to everything from selection and crossbreeding to proper care: diet, temperature, lighting, pH levels, and dissolved oxygen level. The judging panel scores entries based on color, tail shape, dorsal fin, pectoral fins, body shape, and abdomen.

Among the participants, Nguyen Huu Phuoc from Vinh Long Province brought striking, well-formed Molly fish and won first place in the round-tail male category.

Phuoc said the event was an opportunity for breeders to connect, exchange techniques, update new methods, and seek cooperation and market expansion.

According to the organizers, the Molly Fish Mini Show aims to create space for breeders, producers, and ornamental fish businesses to meet and exchange experience in care, preservation, and breeding, thereby improving quality and product value. The event also helps promote new ornamental fish lines and encourages innovation in breeding, contributing to building the Dong Thap ornamental fish brand.

At the end of the competition, first, second, and third prizes were awarded across all four categories, honoring outstanding Molly fish and marking a successful debut season.
