My Ngai Ward to Launch Xom Ray Farmer's Market on Jan 31

(DTO) On the morning of January 27, the People's Committee of My Ngai Ward, Dong Thap Province, announced that it will hold the grand opening of the Xom Ray Periodic Market in Hamlet 14 on January 31.

Established in early 2024, Xom Ray Periodic Market operates from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Saturday and attracts between 500 and 1,000 visitors. The market had been suspended for nearly three months due to weather conditions.

The My Ngai Ward Public Service Supply Center is currently completing repair and upgrade work, adding new features to both promote tourism and preserve the value of traditional markets.

Improvements include upgrading the road leading to the market, decorating the market gate, and maintaining nearly 30 vendor stalls where local farmers can sell vegetables, fruits, rural treats, local specialties, and traditional cakes.

The market area also features a children’s playground, a space for don ca tai tu (traditional Southern folk music), lotus and water lily spaces, and landscaped areas where visitors can enjoy views of the lush rice fields and crops surrounding the market and take photos.

The ward authorities also encourage local farmers to offer hands-on experiences for visitors, such as harvesting rice and crops when they are in season.
