Nearly 3.9 billion VND mobilised to support border communities in Son La ahead of Tet

DTO/NDO- Nearly 3.9 billion VND (around 150,300 USD) has been mobilised to support ethnic minority communities in border communes of Son La Province under the 2026 programme “Border guard spring – Warming the hearts of villagers”.

The Son La provincial Border Guard Command, in coordination with local Party committees, authorities, businesses and benefactors, organised the programme in Xuan Nha Commune on February 6 and 7. A wide range of practical and meaningful activities were carried out, reflecting the spirit of solidarity and the close bond between the border guards and local people.

In Xuan Nha alone, total resources mobilised exceeded 870 million VND. The organisers presented 400 gift packages worth 600,000 VND each, along with cash gifts and additional support from sponsors. Dozens of scholarships, computers, rice packages, warm blankets and essential goods were also distributed to students, disadvantaged households and people of prestige in the community.

The programme featured “zero-cost stalls”, food stalls and cultural activities, providing thousands of gifts, meals and necessities to poor households and families under preferential policies.

According to Colonel Pham Tung Lam, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the Son La Border Guard Command, similar activities were held simultaneously by border guard stations along the province’s border line, spreading humanitarian values and bringing a warm spring atmosphere to remote frontier areas.

In Long Sap Commune, the Long Sap International Border Gate’s Border Guard Station coordinated the delivery of gifts, free medical check-ups and meals, the construction of a bridge worth 680 million VND, and agricultural support, with total assistance valued at about 1.2 billion VND.

Other border guard stations, including Chieng Tuong, Muong Lan, Phieng Pan and Chieng Khuong, also organised gift distributions, health consultations, zero-cost stalls and educational support, with total funding at each location ranging from 250 million to over 750 million VND.
