Provincial Leaders Survey, Map Out Development Along Bao Dinh River Banks
(DTO) On the morning of October 1, Mr. Phan Van Thang, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Thap Province, together with Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Dieu, and leaders of relevant departments and agencies, surveyed the Bao Dinh River Bank Road Project.
They also held a working session with the Standing Committee of the Dao Thanh Ward Party Committee and relevant ward authorities to assess construction progress, transport connectivity, and tourism potential linking waterway and road networks to drive My Tho's urban development.

According to the Provincial Management Board for Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Projects, the Bao Dinh River Bank Road Project has a total investment of nearly VND 2 trillion. It traverses Trung An, Dao Thanh, My Tho, and My Phong wards in Dong Thap Province.
The project is currently implementing three construction packages with a combined investment of over VND 820 billion. Of these, Construction Package 1 has reached 95% completion. For the newly handed-over 54-meter section, the contractor is mobilizing machinery and equipment, aiming to complete the work before November 15, 2026. Construction Package 2 has been fully completed.

For Construction Package 4, the contractor has completed 60% of the work, while 100% of affected households have agreed to receive compensation and support payments. The investor is coordinating with local authorities to urge the remaining four households to hand over the site soon. Technical infrastructure systems are also being relocated to facilitate construction. The contractor aims to complete the package within 2026.
At the working session, Dao Thanh Ward leaders proposed that the province review and allocate funding for the remaining components along both banks of the Bao Dinh River in accordance with the approved 1/500 detailed plan.
They also proposed prioritizing land acquisition along Le Viet Thang Road, which has a width of 3.5 meters, to clear substandard houses with limited depth located between the river embankment and the road. These structures affect traffic safety, urban development space, and townscape aesthetics. The cleared land would be used to develop green parks in line with the plan, helping revitalize the urban environment and improve the landscape along both riverbanks.

The ward also proposed prioritizing investment in bridges across the Bao Dinh River to ensure seamless connectivity between the two banks. Specifically, in the section passing through Dao Thanh Ward, the locality proposed building a bridge linking the inner-city road network with the Northeast Urban Area, as well as a bridge across the river along the extended Tran Hung Dao Road.
In his concluding remarks, Permanent Deputy Secretary Phan Van Thang asked departments, agencies, and local authorities to conduct a more comprehensive assessment of the Bao Dinh River Bank Road Project, with the aim of making the area a core economic driver of the province.
The Department of Construction was tasked with coordinating with local authorities to review, adjust, and supplement the master plan for the My Tho urban area, aiming to develop it into a nuclear urban center that will drive socio-economic growth.
Regarding the project schedule, Permanent Deputy Secretary Phan Van Thang urged relevant units to accelerate construction while ensuring high quality, striving to complete and hand over the project before December 31. Investment should not be limited to completing the main construction works but must synchronously integrate infrastructure, including green spaces, lighting systems, and related technical facilities.
Upon completion, the project must meet quality standards, ensure infrastructural integration, create scenic highlights, and enhance urban aesthetics. Departments and local authorities should continue studying and reviewing additional projects to expand development space. Particular attention must be paid to infrastructure investment for resettlement, ensuring that affected residents enjoy living conditions equal to or better than their previous homes.

For sections where construction has yet to begin, the Department of Construction, in coordination with local authorities, was asked to issue landslide warnings and strictly prevent unauthorized extensions or new riverside housing. At the same time, parks should be developed to provide public spaces for local residents.
The area consolidates significant economic, cultural, landscape, and community values. The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism should spearhead developing tourism linked to local culture and explore ways to harness these assets, creating a destination where visitors from different localities can come to explore and experience the area.
Bridges across the Bao Dinh River, if well-designed, could become architectural and tourism landmarks. Regarding the remaining embankment sections, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee assigned the Provincial People’s Committee to leverage available resources for investment.
