Spreading Community Values Through Humanitarian Movements

(DTO) In the flow of social life, many individuals still struggle with hardships, illnesses, and unexpected life events. Amidst these circumstances, the Red Cross Society of Dong Thap Province has emerged as a bridge of compassion, connecting the community's spirit of sharing with those less fortunate.

A BRIDGE CONNECTING COMPASSIONATE HEARTS

From voluntary blood donations and charity houses to zero-cost markets and “Compassionate Tet” fairs, the Society’s humanitarian activities have strongly spread the values of love and solidarity, contributing to nurturing the spirit of mutual support in society.

President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Đỗ Thị Thu Thảo presents “Compassionate Tet” gifts to disadvantaged households in Đồng Tháp Province.

To ensure these activities are widely implemented and effective, Red Cross organizations at all levels continue to innovate and adopt practical approaches, while mobilizing members, volunteers, and the public to actively participate.

Ms. Dang Thi Thu Uyen, Executive Vice President of the Dong Thap Red Cross Society, stated: “To excel in humanitarian work, we must first excel in mass mobilization, creating a widespread humanitarian movement across all strata of the population.

In 2026 alone, the “Compassionate Tet” campaign mobilized the participation of 330 organizations, businesses, individuals, and benefactors, along with 153 volunteer groups and teams, all joining hands to support disadvantaged people.

Through this program, a total of 81,418 gift packages were delivered to 81,418 beneficiaries, including poor and near-poor households, people with disabilities, the visually impaired, and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, along with various other humanitarian works and initiatives, with a total value exceeding VND 43 billion.

The Provincial Standing Committee has directed and organized the acceleration of emulation movements and campaigns to attract and generate a vast humanitarian movement.

Consequently, the Society's emulation efforts have gradually become a regular consciousness and responsibility within each level of the Society and among its members, creating a collective action and motivation to link the strength of the entire society in humanitarian activities with profound humanistic significance.”

Reality shows that in many localities, the Red Cross has become a trusted address for connecting social resources. When facing difficulties that require help, citizens immediately think of the Society. When wishing to share, businesses, organizations, and philanthropists also turn to the Society as an effective mobilization channel.

Red Cross officials present gifts to persons with disabilities and vulnerable individuals in society.

Beyond serving as a bridge, the Red Cross also plays a key role as an organizer and coordinator of humanitarian activities in a systematic and professional manner. As a result, support reaches the right people at the right time, helping many families overcome difficulties.

Among its annual humanitarian efforts, the “Compassionate Tet” campaign stands out as a major highlight of the Đồng Tháp Red Cross.

The program mobilizes social resources to ensure that poor and vulnerable people can enjoy the Lunar New Year, leaving no one behind.

In addition to zero-cost markets, many meaningful activities are organized, such as free medical check-ups, haircuts, distribution of reading glasses, and family photo sessions. Though simple, these acts bring great joy to local residents.

These achievements have been made possible thanks to the support and companionship of numerous businesses, social organizations, and benefactors.

Through such collaboration, enterprise-sponsored programs have organized two Tet markets and distributed 500 shopping vouchers (worth VND 800,000 each) to disadvantaged people, along with free medical examinations and gift-giving activities.

Other organizations have also contributed hundreds to thousands of gift packages for the poor, students in difficult circumstances, and people with disabilities, further spreading the spirit of compassion throughout the community.

JOINING HANDS FOR HUMANITARIAN GOALS

The support extends far beyond Tet gifts, with numerous humanitarian infrastructure projects being implemented. Activities such as constructing rural bridges, building "Houses of Compassion," and supporting semi-boarding kitchens for schools have significantly improved the lives of people in disadvantaged areas.

Disadvantaged residents receive Tet gifts at the launch of the “Compassionate Tet” campaign organized by the Red Cross.

During the recent Lunar New Year, the Red Cross Society coordinated the inauguration of several rural bridges and broke ground on civil works with a total budget of billions of VND. These new bridges not only facilitate travel but also unlock economic development opportunities for the locals.

Behind every program and every gift delivery mission lies the dedication of the Society's staff and volunteers. Many among them brave long distances to reach remote areas and deliver aid directly to the people.

Some have dedicated decades to this mission, considering it an integral part of their lives. Mr. Le Quang Tuan, a local Red Cross official, shared: “Humanitarian work can be exhausting at times, but seeing the people's joy makes me feel happy as well.”

This very dedication has helped the humanitarian movement expand. Many individuals, after receiving support, have returned to participate in volunteer activities to help others in need. This is precisely how the spirit of compassion is amplified within the community.

It can be said that each gift given not only alleviates the hardships of the poor but also spreads the spirit of "mutual affection and assistance" throughout society.

From the warm Tet markets and houses of compassion to the new bridges spanning small canals—all serve as a vivid testament to the power of sharing.

Ms. Dang Thi Thu Uyen, Executive Vice President of the Dong Thap Red Cross Society, shared: “Wherever there are humanitarian activities, the presence and role of the Red Cross Society are felt; wherever there are the poor and the vulnerable, there is the support and sharing of Red Cross officials, members, volunteers, and youth, helping people overcome hardships and rise in life.

In the coming period, the Society at all levels will focus on enhancing the quality and efficiency of its activities, building and developing a robust organization to meet the requirements of the current era.

We will launch emulation movements for humanitarian mobilization and charity, while innovating the content, methods, and formats of training for Red Cross personnel—honing activity skills and situational handling. This aims to build a contingent of officials, members, and volunteers with sufficient capacity and character to successfully fulfill set tasks, contributing to the local socio-economic development goals. By effectively performing our core role as a bridge in humanitarian activities, the traditional values of humanity, compassion, and the humanitarian spirit will continue to shine ever brighter across our Dong Thap homeland.”
