(DTO) On the morning of August 27, Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien, along with leaders of relevant departments and agencies, inspected durian orchards applying cadmium remediation solutions.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien inspects Mr. Bay's durian orchard.

The delegation inspected the durian orchard of Huynh Huu Loc in Hoa Hao Hamlet, Ngu Hiep Commune, and that of Tran The Bay in Hamlet 16, Long Tien Commune.

After the field inspection and hearing preliminary reports on the models' initial results, Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien requested the agriculture sector to formulate a specific plan for soil sampling to test cadmium levels.

Once test results are available, relevant agencies must provide farmers with clear guidance on appropriate measures, including specific technical protocols for cadmium remediation. Farmers should also take greater initiative in protecting their own orchards, such as investing in testing equipment or coordinating representative sampling for periodic checks.

The agriculture sector was tasked with guiding farmers on periodic sampling, clearly defining key timing and proper procedures to monitor and control contamination right from the outset.

Regarding the cadmium remediation model at Tran The Bay's orchard, Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien asked the orchard owner to maintain current farming protocols, build on the results achieved, and share techniques with surrounding farmers. Long Tien Commune was requested to continue replicating this model for local durian cultivation.

Also on the same morning, Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien inspected several infrastructure projects, including the embankment from the Fruit Park to Cai Be 2 Bridge, the Fruit Park, and the bridge and embankments along both sides of Ba Hop Canal in Cai Be Commune.

After hearing progress reports, Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien requested that, for the Ba Hop Canal bridge and embankment project in Cai Be Commune, local authorities and relevant agencies reassess its necessity and re-evaluate the project location to maximize investment efficiency.
