Viet Nam, China defence leaders attend groundbreaking of Hai Son Friendship Medical Station
DTO/NDO- Senior defence officials from Viet Nam and China attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hai Son Friendship Medical Station on March 18, as part of the 10th Viet Nam–China Border Defence Friendship Exchange.
General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defence of Viet Nam, joined Senior Lieutenant General Dong Jun, China’s Minister of National Defence, at the event held in Hai Son Commune, Quang Ninh Province.

According to Colonel Vu Van Hung, Political Commissar of the Quang Ninh Border Guard Command, the facility will comprise two storeys with a total floor area of 2,450 sq m and 32 rooms. It will include general medical examination and treatment areas, administrative offices, and supporting technical infrastructure.
The project is expected to significantly enhance healthcare services for local residents and armed forces stationed in the border area.
With a total investment of 52 billion VND (1.98 million USD) funded by the Ministry of National Defence, construction will be carried out to high standards and on an accelerated schedule, with the aim of bringing the facility into operation as soon as possible.
Chairman of the Hai Son Commune People’s Committee, Le Van Cuong, said the project would not only meet growing healthcare needs but also strengthen trust and solidarity between the military and civilians in the border region.
Once completed, the station is expected to be equipped with modern medical equipment, helping attract qualified healthcare professionals and improve treatment capacity for both local communities and neighbouring areas.
The project stands out as a key activity within the broader exchange programme, underscoring deepening defence cooperation between Viet Nam and China. It is also seen as a practical contribution to maintaining peace, stability, and sustainable development along the shared border, while symbolising the two countries’ friendship in both defence and public healthcare.
