Conference on Cooperation to Ensure Security and Order in Border Areas

(DTO) On the afternoon of April 27, in Dong Thap, the Dong Thap Provincial Police Department and the Prey Veng Provincial Police Department of the Kingdom of Cambodia held a conference on cooperation to ensure security and order in the border area.

The conference was co-chaired by Major General Lam Phuoc Nguyen, Director of the Dong Thap Provincial Police Department, and Lieutenant General Chhoeun Bunchhorn, Head of the Prey Veng Provincial Police Department. 

Attending the conference were members of the Dong Thap Provincial Police Department Board of Directors, representatives of affiliated units, police officers from border communes and wards, and officers from the police forces of Dong Thap and Prey Veng. 

According to the report presented at the conference, in 2025, the police forces of the two provinces proactively coordinated to ensure absolute security and safety for delegations visiting each other, actively exchanged information, and coordinated border patrols and inspections, thereby promptly detecting and resolving a number of related incidents in the spirit of friendship and mutual understanding, contributing to ensuring security and safety in the border area and supporting socio-economic development in each province.

In addition, the two Police Departments organized 13 delegation exchanges with 117 officers visiting, extending Lunar New Year greetings, and participating in national celebrations and anniversaries of both countries; exchanged documents and materials for the border security cooperation conference; discussed the establishment of a joint liaison office for drug and crime prevention; and resolved conflicts and disputes involving residents of both provinces, as well as emerging complex issues in the border area. 

Furthermore, the two sides effectively coordinated in protecting the achievements of border demarcation and marker planting, while also conducting outreach and advocacy so residents of both provinces understand and support demarcation efforts and assist authorities in protecting existing border markers. 

At the same time, both provincial police forces facilitated daily cross-border movement for border residents to study, seek medical care, and trade goods.

At the conference, the two provincial police forces agreed to continue their cooperation on ensuring security and order in the border area in 2026, with 14 key areas of focus for the coming period. 

These include strengthening information exchange, enhancing coordination in crime prevention and control, increasing patrols and inspections, and promptly detecting and addressing incidents from the grassroots level. 

They also emphasized boosting legal education for residents in border areas and improving public awareness and vigilance against criminal activities and violations of the law. 

The conference was an opportunity for both sides to further strengthen the solidarity and friendship between the two provincial police forces, contributing to the continued development of the cooperative relationship between the two countries. It also created a solid foundation for maintaining security and order in the border area, effectively serving each locality’s socio-economic development goals.
