Dong Thap: 15 More Communes and Wards Recognized as Safe Zones

(DTO) The Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee has signed a decision to recognize 15 more commune-level administrative units as Revolutionary Safe Zones dating from the resistance wars against the French and American forces. 

The newly recognized localities are Vinh Binh, Tram Chim, Thanh My, Tan Thuan Binh, Tan Phu Trung, Tan Duong, Phu Huu, Phu Cuong, Phong My, Phong Hoa, Lai Vung, Hoi Cu, Hoa Long, Chau Thanh, and My Ngai Ward. 

Previously, the Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee had recognized 44 communes and wards in the province as Safe Zones during the resistance wars against the French and American forces. 

With the latest additions, Dong Thap now has 59 communes and wards recognized as Safe Zones from the wartime period. These localities are entitled to preferential policies under current regulations. 

A Safe Zone is a commune-level administrative unit of historical significance that once served as a shelter and a base for the Party and State’s revolutionary leadership and activities during the resistance wars against the French and American forces. Such areas met criteria related to geography, politics, military affairs, economics and society to protect cadres and maintain revolutionary activities, and are officially recognized by the State and entitled to preferential policies under current regulations. 

The recognition of Safe Zones not only honors the history and people of these revolutionary areas during wartime, but also contributes to improving social welfare. 

Permanent residents of Safe Zones during the resistance wars who are not covered by health insurance under other categories will receive health insurance cards funded by the state budget, with 100% of eligible healthcare costs covered. In addition, the localities will receive support for infrastructure investment and socio-economic development, helping improve residents’ living standards.
