Dong Thap Commemorates 65th Anniversary of the Southern Liberation Farmers’ Association

(DTO) On the morning of April 17, the Dong Thap Provincial Farmers’ Union held a gathering to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Southern Liberation Farmers’ Association (April 21, 1961 - April 21, 2026), the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2026), and the 140th anniversary of International Workers’ Day (May 1, 1886 - May 1, 2026).

Attendees included Pham Van Chuan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap People’s Council; Dinh Van Dung, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Thap Province; Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairwoman of the Dong Thap Farmers’ Union; along with former leaders of the provincial Farmers’ Union across different periods, former officials of the Southern Liberation Farmers’ Association, commune-level leaders, and 102 chairpersons of Farmers’ Unions from communes and wards across the province.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong reviewed the 65-year journey of formation and development of the Southern Liberation Farmers’ Association, while affirming the role and position of the peasantry and the Farmers’ Union in the current period. She called on officials and members to continue upholding the tradition of solidarity, innovation, and creativity; actively engage in production and emulation movements; and contribute to building modern, civilized new-style rural areas. The goal is to shape a professional, dynamic image of farmers, contributing to the successful implementation of the province’s socio-economic development targets. 

In addition, the organizing committee screened a video titled “Dong Thap Farmers: 65 Years of Upholding Tradition and Stepping Confidently into the Future,” highlighting notable achievements of the Farmers’ Union at all levels and farmers’ movements in recent years. 

Many delegates also shared heartfelt reflections and memories from their time working with the Union, inspiring today’s generation of officials to continue inheriting and promoting traditions while building an increasingly strong organization.

At the event, Dinh Van Dung expressed hope that Farmers’ Unions at all levels in the province would continue to strengthen unity, overcome challenges, and affirm their central role in farmers’ movements. He emphasized their role as a solid support for the peasantry and as a key channel for conveying the Party’s guidelines and policies to the people, especially on issues related to agriculture, farmers, and rural areas, thereby contributing to the successful development of a civilized and prosperous Dong Thap.
