Dong Thap Confers the Honorary State Title of “Vietnamese Heroic Mother”

(DTO) As part of activities marking the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2026), the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People’s Council, the Provincial People’s Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Thap Province on July 21 solemnly held a ceremony to confer the honorary State title of "Vietnamese Heroic Mother" in recognition of mothers who made outstanding contributions and tremendous sacrifices to the cause of national liberation and reunification. 

The ceremony was attended by Pham Duc Toan, Deputy Head of the Central Emulation and Commendation Board; Chau Thi My Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee and Head of the province’s National Assembly Delegation; Pham Thanh Ngai, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee; leaders of provincial departments and organizations; and representatives of the families of the mothers receiving or posthumously receiving the title. 

This year, 15 mothers in Dong Thap were honored with the honorary State title of “Vietnamese Heroic Mother.” Among them, Pham Thi Kien, from Tan Phu Dong Commune, was the only recipient to receive the title in person, while the remaining 14 mothers were honored posthumously. Due to her advanced age and poor health, Mother Pham Thi Kien was unable to attend the ceremony. Provincial leaders are expected to present the title to her at her home on July 23. 

Representatives of the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers’ families expressed their deep gratitude for the recognition shown by the Party, the State, and local authorities toward families with meritorious service to the nation. They said the honor is not only a source of pride for their families but also an inspiration for future generations to uphold the revolutionary tradition and live in a way that honors the immense sacrifices made by the mothers and the nation’s fallen heroes. 

On behalf of Dong Thap’s youth, Le Hoang Quyet, Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, expressed profound gratitude to the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, fallen heroes, and all those who rendered distinguished service to the nation. He affirmed that the province’s younger generation will continue to uphold the patriotic tradition through learning, self-improvement, and active contributions to local development, while taking part in activities honoring national contributors and preserving the Vietnamese tradition of gratitude. 

In his remarks, Pham Thanh Ngai, Deputy Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, emphasized that the title of “Vietnamese Heroic Mother” is not only one of the highest honors of the State and the Party but also a sacred symbol of patriotism, selfless sacrifice, and the indomitable spirit of Vietnamese women. 

He noted that, guided by the traditions of gratitude and remembrance, Dong Thap has consistently regarded caring for people with meritorious service to the nation as a shared responsibility, obligation, and heartfelt commitment of the entire political system and society. 

Dong Thap is currently home to approximately 194,000 people with meritorious service to the nation and individuals who have received one-time allowances under decisions of the Prime Minister. A total of 8,238 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers have been conferred or posthumously conferred the title, while more than 20,000 people with meritorious service and their family members receive monthly allowances. Preferential policies and benefits continue to be implemented fully and promptly, alongside regular initiatives that provide practical support for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, war invalids, sick veterans, and the families of fallen soldiers. 

Chairman Pham Thanh Ngai called on authorities at all levels to further strengthen activities honoring those who served the nation and to improve support for people with meritorious service and policy beneficiary families. He also urged continued implementation of the 500-Day Campaign to search for, recover, and identify the remains of fallen soldiers, helping ease the pain of war and fulfill the wishes of martyrs’ families. 

On behalf of the Party organization, government, and people of Dong Thap Province, he expressed sincere gratitude to the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, the families of fallen soldiers, and all those who made sacrifices for the nation. He also wished the mothers’ families good health and happiness, while encouraging them to continue carrying forward the revolutionary tradition and contributing to the province’s rapid and sustainable development.
