Dong Thap Expands Cooperation with Yokohama in Water Resource Management
(DTO) - Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Dieu on July 30 received a delegation led by Mr. Shimizu Koji, Director General of the River and Sewerage Bureau of Yokohama City, Japan, who paid a courtesy call and discussed expanding cooperation in drainage, wastewater treatment, and sustainable urban development.

At the meeting, Mr. Shimizu Koji highly appreciated the outcomes of the Dong Thap provincial leadership delegation's working visit to Yokohama in May 2026, describing it as an important foundation for both sides to further advance cooperation in water management and treatment.
Drawing on Yokohama's expertise, he expressed the Bureau's willingness to share technical solutions and support Dong Thap in addressing drainage and wastewater treatment challenges, thereby improving the environment and enhancing residents' quality of life.
He also hoped to continue receiving close cooperation from the provincial People's Committee and relevant departments and agencies to ensure the effective implementation of future water improvement and wastewater treatment projects.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Dieu welcomed the delegation following the province's productive mission to Yokohama City in May 2026 and thanked the Bureau for its continued support and active efforts to strengthen cooperation with Dong Thap.
He noted that following the administrative merger, Dong Thap has seen significant increases in population, land area, and the scale of its urban system, creating greater demand for investment in technical infrastructure, particularly water resource management, drainage, and wastewater treatment in urban centers such as My Tho, Cao Lanh, and Sa Dec.
The Vice Chairman expressed his hope that the visit would provide provincial departments and specialized professionals with valuable opportunities to exchange experience and learn from Japanese experts to enhance their capacity in operating water supply and drainage systems and managing water resources.
He also called on Mr. Shimizu Koji, in his capacity as head of Yokohama's River and Sewerage Bureau, to continue promoting technical cooperation and providing support to Dong Thap in these fields.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Dieu expressed confidence that, with the continued support of Japanese partners, cooperation between Dong Thap Province and Yokohama City would become increasingly substantive and effective, contributing to the development of modern urban infrastructure, enhancing climate resilience, and supporting the province's sustainable development goals.
