Dong Thap holds gathering of key provincial officials, harnessing collective wisdom and experience for sustainable development.

(DTO) On the afternoon of July 30, the Standing Committee of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee held the 2026 meeting of the province’s key officials to strengthen ties with former provincial leaders while providing updates on the implementation of political tasks, socio-economic development, national defense and security, Party building, and the political system during the first months of 2026, as well as outlining key priorities for the time ahead.

Attending the event were former senior provincial leaders, including Mr. Le Minh Hoan, former Member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, and former Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Huynh Van Niem, former Member of the Party Central Committee, former Deputy Head of the Central Organization Commission, and former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Huynh Minh Doan, former Member of the Party Central Committee, former Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the Southwest Region, and former Provincial Party Secretary; Ms. Tran Thi Kim Cuc, former Member of the Party Central Committee and former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Le Vinh Tan, former Member of the Party Central Committee, former Minister of Home Affairs, and former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Ngo Chi Cuong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council; along with Deputy Secretaries of the Provincial Party Committee, current and former Standing Committee members, current and former members of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, and leaders of the Provincial Party Committee Office and the Provincial People’s Committee Office.

On behalf of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Phan Van Thang, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, presented a report on socio-economic development, Party building, and the political system during the first months of 2026. 

Following the implementation of the two-tier local government model on July 1, 2025, Dong Thap quickly stabilized its organizational structure, ensuring the political system operated smoothly and laying the foundation for a new phase of development.

The province’s economy maintained strong momentum, with GRDP growing by 7.14%, including 7.67% in the second quarter. The industrial and construction sector expanded by 9.52%, services by 8.65%, and agriculture by 4.15%. 

Dong Thap also completed adjustments to its 2021-2030 Provincial Master Plan with a vision to 2050, while maintaining its leading position nationwide in rice production, pangasius farming, and several key fruit crops. 

Business activities continued to improve, with 1,255 newly established enterprises and 184 investment projects in industrial parks. Export turnover reached 5.8 billion USD, while state budget revenue exceeded 14.715 trillion VND, equal to 61.85% of the annual target.

The two-tier local government model has been operating steadily across all 102 communes and wards, delivering increasingly efficient public services. The province currently provides 2,063 administrative procedures through the one-stop service mechanism, including 1,532 online procedures, with public satisfaction reaching around 90%. 

Culture and social affairs also recorded positive progress. The high school graduation rate reached 99.78%, the highest in the Mekong Delta, while the province welcomed more than 5 million visitors, up 24.6% year-on-year. 

Party building, national defense and security, and efforts to combat corruption and wastefulness continued to be strengthened. The province has completed 210 of 386 tasks assigned under the Politburo’s thematic resolutions, with no overdue assignments.

Despite these achievements, the province still faces several challenges. Economic growth remains below the full-year target of 8.21%. Public investment disbursement has been slower than expected. Some long-delayed projects have yet to be implemented. The quality of local officials in several areas requires further improvement. 

In the coming months, the province will focus on strengthening Party building, improving the quality of grassroots officials, accelerating public investment disbursement, resolving stalled projects, effectively implementing the Politburo’s resolutions, and striving to achieve its 2026 growth target.

At the meeting, former provincial leaders expressed their delight at Dong Thap's achievements following the implementation of the two-tier local government model. They also offered valuable recommendations on Party building, strengthening the political system, socio-economic development, and strategic directions to drive the province’s rapid and sustainable growth in the new development phase. 

Provincial Party Committee Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong expresses his sincere appreciation for the dedication, responsibility, and valuable contributions of the province’s former leaders. 

Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, expressed his appreciation and fully acknowledged the recommendations made by the former provincial leaders. He also provided updates on the province’s key development projects and major breakthroughs planned for socio-economic development in the coming period. 

The Provincial People’s Committee Chairman affirmed that the provincial leadership would carefully study, incorporate, and respond to each group of recommendations. He also expressed his hope that former leaders would continue to contribute their ideas and experience to help address challenges and support Dong Thap’s rapid and sustainable development.

Concluding the gathering, Provincial Party Committee Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong expressed his sincere appreciation for the dedication, responsibility, and thoughtful contributions of the province’s former leaders. He called on generations of provincial leaders to continue sharing their wisdom and experience, joining hands with the Party organizations, local authorities, and the people to build a rapidly and sustainably developing Dong Thap in the years ahead.
