(DTO) The election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term is fast approaching.

With a proactive approach and the highest level of responsibility, Dong Thap’s security forces are deploying comprehensive measures to safeguard public order and ensure absolute safety for this major political event.

A SOLID “SHIELD” FROM THE GRASSROOTS

Recognizing that security and safety are decisive to the success of the election, the Party Committee and the Directorate of the Dong Thap Provincial Police Department began comprehensive direction and planning from the early months of 2026.

Major General Lam Phuoc Nguyen, Director of the Dong Thap Provincial Police Department, emphasized: “Fully aware of our core role in ensuring security and order for the election, the Party Committee and Directorate have issued five master plans, two response plans, and nine documents detailing Central and Ministry-level directives, serving as a unified framework for all units across the force.”

The provincial police have identified 10 priority task groups, with top priority given to monitoring the situation closely and taking early preventive action to stop sabotage and misinformation about the election both online and in real life.

One of this year’s key highlights is the tight coordination between the police, military, and local mass organizations.

Communes and wards have developed detailed security plans for every phase before, during, and after Election Day.

Officers of Trung An Ward Police Department and grassroots security teams ensure safety at a voter meeting.

Local police forces are on full standby, reinforcing patrols on major routes, residential areas, and especially around voter lists and polling stations.

According to the Dong Thap Provincial Election Committee, the Provincial People’s Committee has launched a peak campaign to crack down on crime and legal violations to strengthen security and public order. The plan aims to enhance the effectiveness of situation monitoring, promptly detect and prevent plots and disruptive activities by hostile, reactionary, and opposing forces, and to implement measures to ensure external security, internal political security, economic security, cybersecurity, as well as security in ethnic, religious, and social affairs, thereby maintaining security and public order for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term across the province.

The collaboration with semi-professional forces such as militia units and grassroots security teams has created a tightly knit security network.

Fire prevention, firefighting, and rescue plans at polling stations are being thoroughly reviewed to guarantee clear escape routes and ensure firefighting equipment remains fully operational.

HOLDING FIRM IN KEY LOCALITIES

In densely populated areas such as Dao Thanh Ward, home to more than 46,000 voters and 29 polling stations, the management workload is significant. To ensure every citizen’s voting rights are fully protected, the ward police have maximized the use of the national population database.

Officers of Cau Muong Border Guard Station (Thuong Lac Ward) patrol and monitor the border.

Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Ngan, Chief of Dao Thanh Ward Police Department, shared: “We have implemented political security and public order measures in a comprehensive manner. The peak campaign to crack down on crime has proved effective, helping to clean up the area and reinforce a safe, stable environment for the election. Our unit strictly maintains duty and readiness protocols, keeps a firm grasp on emerging situations, and promptly advises on resolving issues to avoid any passivity or surprises.”

Meanwhile, in Thuong Phước Commune, a border area adjacent to Cambodia, the task is even heavier. With many residents working far from home and an extensive border line, the commune police have worked closely with the Border Guard to pursue a “dual mission”: safeguarding territorial sovereignty while securing 16 polling stations.

Major Bui Thanh Em, Chief of Thuong Phuoc Commune Police Department, noted: “We regularly conduct joint patrols along the border and step up checks on people and vehicles crossing through, preventing unauthorized entries that could disrupt election security.”

The visible presence of security forces across urban and rural routes has helped build reassurance and confidence among the public.

Huynh Van Hung, a resident of Tan Huong Commune, said: “Preparations seem very thorough this year. Police officers often come to remind locals to stay alert and maintain order. Seeing security tightened like this makes us feel at ease as we cast our ballots for those with both integrity and capability.”

Public support forms the strongest “people-based security posture.” Through the “All People Protect National Security” movement, residents have provided valuable information, enabling the police to handle minor incidents early and prevent them from escalating into hotspots.

Thuong Phuoc border police conduct night patrols to maintain security in the area.

As Election Day approaches, work intensity across the provincial security forces continues to accelerate. The Directorate of the Dong Thap Provincial Police Department has assigned members to conduct on-site inspections at all 102 police duty posts at the commune and ward levels.

These sustained efforts form the foundation for voters in the Pink Lotus Land to confidently entrust their ballots, contributing to a stronger, more effective state apparatus.
