Dong Thap Strengthens Cooperative Ties with Champasak
(DTO) A delegation from Dong Thap province, led by Huynh Minh Tuan, member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, on April 3 paid a visit to Champasak province in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to extend New Year greetings on the occasion of the Bunpimay Festival 2026.
The delegation was received by Mr. Somboun Heuangvongsa, Vice Chairman of the Champasak provincial administration.

On behalf of Dong Thap province, Vice Chairman Huynh Minh Tuan conveyed best wishes to the Party leadership, authorities and people of Champasak province for a prosperous New Year, along with continued achievements in 2026 and the years ahead.
In response, Mr. Somboun Heuangvongsa expressed his pleasure and honor in welcoming the Dong Thap delegation on the occasion of the traditional New Year.
He also shared updates on the province’s economic development, particularly in trade relations with Viet Nam in general and Dong Thap in particular, while highlighting potential areas for cooperation and investment from Champasak’s side.

From Dong Thap’s side, Vice Chairman Huynh Minh Tuan affirmed that in the coming time, the province will continue to coordinate closely and soon move toward re-signing a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two localities. He also proposed that Champasak authorities further promote cooperation in trade and investment, strengthen business connectivity, enhance collaboration in sustainable agriculture adapted to climate change, and expand tourism cooperation linked to the East–West Economic Corridor.
Particular emphasis was placed on boosting trade connectivity through the Dinh Ba and Thuong Phuoc international border gates of Dong Thap province, via Cambodia to Laos, in order to establish a seamless trade route and further unlock the development potential of Dong Thap with southern Lao provinces, including Champasak.
Building on the long-standing tradition of solidarity and cooperation, the Vice Chairman expressed confidence that the friendship between Dong Thap and Champasak will remain “evergreen and enduring,” for the benefit of the people of both countries and for peace, stability and development in the region.
