Dong Thap Strives to Rank among the Leading Developed Localities in the Mekong Delta
(DTO) On the afternoon of May 21, Dong Thap Province convened a conference to announce adjustments to its Provincial Master Plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision toward 2050.
The event was attended by Mr. Ngo Chi Cuong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council; Mr. Nguyen Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Planning Management Department under the Ministry of Finance; alongside provincial deputy secretaries, members of the provincial Party Standing Committee, current and former provincial leaders, and representatives from Tay Ninh, An Giang, Ca Mau provinces, and Can Tho City.

The adjusted Dong Thap Provincial Master Plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision toward 2050, seeks to expand development space while vigorously driving a green economy, logistics, and high-tech agriculture.
By 2030, Dong Thap aims to accelerate sustainable, modern industrial growth and pioneer the development of ecological agriculture, modern rural areas, and civilized farmers, positioning itself among the leading developed localities in the Mekong Delta region. Concurrently, the province will foster the comprehensive development of Dong Thap's culture and people, raise living standards, promote socio-cultural progress, and safeguard national defense and security.

With a vision toward 2050, Dong Thap aspires to become a modern agricultural and eco-tourism hub for the Mekong Delta, ranking among the nation's leaders in several agricultural fields and advanced industrial development. The province is envisioned as a “highly livable place” featuring prosperous and happy livelihoods, a civilized, orderly, and safe society, and solid national defense and security.
Adjusting the provincial master plan is not merely a technical task but a pivotal political mandate. It represents an urgent requirement to forge the legal and strategic foundation for a revitalized Dong Thap—one with a larger territorial scale, population, and greater potential, which simultaneously places high demands on governance and development.

Addressing the conference, Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, underscored that the event held profound significance for the local Party organization, authorities, and residents in this new historical period. He described the adjustment as not only an important legal milestone but also the launching pad for a longer and more challenging journey —transforming strategic visions into tangible infrastructure, sustainable livelihoods, and an elevated quality of life, ensuring Dong Thap residents enjoy more peaceful and happier lives.
Chairman Pham Thanh Ngai expressed sincere gratitude to representatives of central ministries, sectors, and agencies for their unwavering support throughout the planning and adjustment process. He also thanked experts, scientists, businesses, and local residents for contributing their dedication and intellect. “The adjusted provincial master plan is a collective intellectual product, reflecting broad consensus and a profound sense of responsibility toward the people,” he stated.

Chairman Pham Thanh Ngai emphasized that turning these strategic orientations into vivid realities across every plot of land, river, and community in Dong Thap demands persistent effort, synchronized coordination, and a bold, action-oriented, and accountable spirit throughout the political system. Dong Thap, a land of dynamic and aspirational people, is turning a new page in its journey. We have every reason to be confident, a solid foundation to expect, and sufficient determination to materialize today’s goals. The provincial leadership pledges, with full historical accountability to the public, that this master plan will not remain just on paper.

Chairman Pham Thanh Ngai expressed confidence that with its tradition of solidarity, dynamic spirit, and a unified will as one among the people to drive development, Dong Thap would enter a new stage of growth with strong internal capacity, steadfast confidence, and achievements worthy of the expectations of both the locality and its citizens.
