Dong Thap: Successful Election Sets Momentum for Achieving 2026 Targets
(DTO) On the afternoon of March 27, the Election Steering Committee and Election Committee of Dong Thap Province convened to review the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term in the province.
The event was attended by Ngo Chi Cuong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Dong Thap Provincial National Assembly delegation, and Head of the Provincial Election Steering Committee.
The election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term in Dong Thap was conducted in a democratic, equal, lawful, safe, and cost-effective manner, truly embodying a nationwide celebration.

Out of 3,046,834 eligible voters, 3,037,150 cast their ballots, reaching 99.68%.
Across the province, 1,635 out of 2,009 polling stations and 53 out of 102 communes and wards recorded a 100% voter turnout. The election fully secured the required number, structure, and composition of National Assembly deputies as stipulated by the National Election Council.
At the provincial level, the People’s Council election also met the mandated structure and composition, with female and young deputies exceeding general requirements. No constituency or polling station had to conduct a re-vote or supplementary vote, and no serious legal violations occurred.

Provincial leaders’ participation as voters helped spread a sense of civic responsibility and democratic spirit throughout the election.
Most voters expressed hope that the newly elected deputies will have the competence, integrity, and sense of responsibility needed to help build a more prosperous province and country.
Speaking at the conference, Phan Van Thang, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee and Deputy Head of the Provincial Election Steering Committee, requested Election Committees at all levels to promptly validate the elected deputies and issue certifications for the 2026-2031 term. He called for the swift organization of the first session of the People’s Councils for the 2026-2031 term and ensure the effective, efficient operation of the two-tier local government.

Newly elected deputies were urged to immediately begin implementing their action plans, uphold their responsibilities and authority as representatives of the people, and actively contribute to fulfilling political tasks at their respective agencies and localities.
Strengthening voter engagement and understanding public concerns was emphasized to reinforce the role and accountability of elected representatives. The successful election results are expected to serve as motivation for achieving all 2026 targets.
Phan Van Thang also called on the newly elected People’s Councils and People’s Committees to innovate their working methods, enhance meeting quality, strengthen the oversight role of the deputies, and ensure that resolutions align closely with real-life needs, turning local policies into real drivers of socio-economic growth.

On this occasion, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 10 collectives and 5 individuals. The Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee honored 43 collectives and 201 individuals for outstanding performance in the 2026-2031 National Assembly and People’s Council elections. The province has also submitted recommendations for the Prime Minister to commend 2 collectives and 2 individuals.
