(DTO) On the morning of October 3, the Dong Thap Provincial Police solemnly held a ceremony to mark the 65th Traditional Day of the Fire and Rescue Police Force (October 4, 1961 – October 4, 2026).

The event was attended by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dieu, Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee; Major General Lam Phuoc Nguyen, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Dong Thap Provincial Police; along with representatives of provincial departments, agencies, and professional units of the provincial police.

Major General Lam Phuoc Nguyen speaks at the ceremony.

At the ceremony, delegates together reviewed the building, fighting, and growth journey of the force. In line with the glorious historical tradition of the nationwide force, the respective forces of the two former provinces (Tien Giang, established on May 15, 1975, and Dong Thap, established on September 30, 1976)—despite facing immense difficulties and equipment shortages during their early days of establishment—have continuously grown.

Following the heroic tradition of previous generations, the force has consistently demonstrated resourcefulness and courage, standing ready to overcome all hardships and dangers to extinguish complex fires and safeguard the peace of the homeland. The 65th Traditional Day provides an opportunity to look back on the heroic past, strengthen confidence, and inspire strength for the journey ahead.

Delegates attend the ceremony.

For their achieved feats, the Fire and Rescue Police Force has been honored to receive numerous prestigious titles and awards from the Party and State, including eight Certificates of Merit from the Government, 17 Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Public Security, nine Certificates of Merit from the General Department of Police, and 43 Certificates of Merit from the Provincial People’s Committee.

Speaking at the gathering, Major General Lam Phuoc Nguyen acknowledged and praised the efforts made by the force across different periods, particularly highlighting their sense of responsibility, solidarity, proactiveness, and bravery in braving hardships and dangers to protect the lives and property of the State and the people.

Delegates pose for a commemorative photo.

Major General Lam Phuoc Nguyen stressed that amid international integration, digital transformation, and rapid urbanization, potential fire and explosion hazards remain ever-present, placing increasingly high demands on fire prevention, firefighting, and rescue work. Therefore, the force needs to focus on several key tasks, including renewing its management mindset toward a model of “self-certification and self-accountability,” reducing administrative procedures, and tightening post-licensing audits; prioritizing prevention to resolutely prevent major fires and fires from spreading; enhancing the effectiveness of State management in tandem with administrative reform while pioneering digital transformation; innovating the content and methods of public communications; expanding self-prevention and self-management models, and effectively implementing the “four-on-the-spot” motto; improving operational capabilities through intensive training, maintaining 24/7 combat readiness, and conducting practical drills at key facilities; and building a clean, strong, regular, elite, and modern force competing in the “Three Mosts: Most Disciplined – Most Loyal – Closest to the People” movement.

He expressed his confidence that all officers and soldiers of the Fire and Rescue Police Department would remain united and determined to successfully fulfill all assigned tasks, proving worthy of being a “steel shield” safeguarding the people’s peaceful lives and serving the province's socio-economic development.
