Long Thuan Ward Recognized as Safe Zone
(DTO) On the morning of April 29, the Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Long Thuan Ward held a ceremony to announce the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee’s Decision recognizing the ward as a Safe Zone during the resistance wars against the French and the Americans.

Attending the event were General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo Member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army; Truong My Hoa, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Committee for Social Affairs; Chau Thi My Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of Dong Thap’s 16th National Assembly Delegation; Major General Pham Van Thanh, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Commander of the Dong Thap Provincial Military Command; Nguyen Thanh Dieu, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; together with leaders and former leaders from central and local agencies.

During the resistance wars against French colonialists and American imperialists, Long Thuan Ward upheld a tradition of patriotism, solidarity, and resilience. Its people placed absolute trust in the Party, actively protecting and sheltering revolutionary cadres, building secure revolutionary bases, and contributing to sustaining and advancing the revolutionary movement locally and in the wider region. With its strategically important position, Long Thuan became a strong revolutionary base, forming a firm “people’s stronghold.”


At the ceremony, the Department of Home Affairs announced the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee’s Decision recognizing Long Thuan Ward as a Safe Zone. A leader of the Provincial People’s Committee presented the decision and offered congratulatory flowers to the local Party organization, authorities, and residents.

Speaking at the event, Le Thi Dau, Secretary of the Ward Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Ward People’s Council, emphasized that this is a politically and historically significant milestone, acknowledging the immense contributions of generations of cadres, soldiers, and residents during the resistance wars. The recognition of Long Thuan as a Safe Zone reflects the Party and State’s deep gratitude toward this land of rich revolutionary tradition.

Delivering his remarks, General Nguyen Trong Nghia expressed joy and emotion at attending the ceremony on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. He stressed that the recognition of Long Thuan Ward as a Safe Zone is a well-deserved acknowledgment of the tremendous sacrifices and contributions of local cadres, soldiers, and residents, marking a source of pride for the province, which has 14 commune-level units recognized as Safe Zone
The General expressed his hope that Long Thuan Ward will continue to uphold its revolutionary tradition, strengthen solidarity, and foster a strong aspiration for development, contributing to a prosperous, civilized, and happy Dong Thap.
On this occasion, the organizers presented gifts to policy-beneficiary families, issued health insurance cards to residents, and commended outstanding collectives and individuals.
